Jazz Sloan Idiots | 12:17 a.m. July 15, 2008
If they want Miles Playing in the summer league then sign him to a contract. It's not CJ who didn't learn from last year it's Sloan and the Jazz.

Miles would be an idiot to go to summer league with out financial protection. I don't drive my car without insurance, and I don't practice medicine without malpractice insurance.

So why would Miles risk injury when there are teams interested in his skill level.

Miles will be the best free agent to leave Utah in years. He will be a star. It's too bad Sloan never gave him a shot. I guarantee you Joe Dumars will.
JAZZ_FAN | 2:03 a.m. July 15, 2008
The Idiot is Miles. He has a chance of a lifetime. But, you have to work hard to get better and achive success. He wants to make lots of money without producing. Try that in the real world and see what you get. Noticed all the teams trying to sign CJ. Not many!!! He has to improve as a player to demand the money. The kid has great potential and skills. However, until he can prove that he can play with the big boys, the money will not come.
RE: Idiots | 2:04 a.m. July 15, 2008
The Jazz in fact have offered CJ a 1 year extension of just over a million dollars. He can sign it at anytime, but he is hoping (pipe-dreaming) that detroit will pony up a little more. It is greed, not common sense.
As for giving CJ a shot, they would, if he'd ever show up for summer ball. That is when guys get shots. Not CJ. He's too busy recording crappy rap music with Dee Brown to post on UTUBE.

Before you slam Jazz player personel for not "recognizing" talented free agents, go talk to:
Howard Eisley
Jamie Watson
Blue Edwards
Kirk Snyder
That Humpphries kid from Minnesota (so good we don't remember his first name)
Shandon Anderson
snd Carlos Arroyo.
Ask how much better things got after leaving Jerry's system. I bet they could shed a little light on what happens when guys think they are better than Jerry says they are.

Miles is an idiot. He will end up on the end of Jerry's bench where he belongs. This kid, like so many others, wants money and fame without paying their dues. I would dump him on attitude alone.
Tired of Sloan Bashers | 7:02 a.m. July 15, 2008
Before you start talking you should learn a little about the collective bargaining agreement so you know what your talking about. Miles has had a contract for 3 years now. The jazz Picked up his option for 1.2 million to keep him a restricted free agent. Thats what teams do. All teams. Not just the Jazz. Regardless of what happens, injury, what ever CJ will get paid that if or when he signs the contract. Maybe he should come play and show other teams his value and do something to help himself get a better offer that forces the Jazz to make a decision. His agent and everyone else that is advising him are idiots period. I agree with the former post. Name a few players who's careers have been so much better after getting out from under Sloans syatem. Theres only a couple that come to my mind. Maybe its all you Sloan haters that need to move on and find a new team!!!!
tom | 7:05 a.m. July 15, 2008
If Detroit or other teams are interested in CJ, wouldn't he want to be in the Rocky Mt Review so they could watch him play? Wouldn't dominating in the Rocky Mt View be the best thing he could possibly do regardless of where he wants to play?
could be | 7:07 a.m. July 15, 2008
that he is afraid of a little competition with brewer and almond for his spot..like jazz_fan said, work hard and earn some of that million dollars that is sitting there for you!
Korver is Worser | 7:13 a.m. July 15, 2008
But he will be the starter next year regardless of what Miles or Brewer or Price do and so the Jazz will lose at least 7 games they won't need to next year. Sloan says he likes hustle on offense and defense then he puts in Kyle who doesn't move on either end. Every coach has a blind spot and two guard is Sloan's. That is why the Jazz will make the playoffs more years than any small market team should but will NEVER win a title. Take the bad with the good and deal with it, I say, but don't blame talented players for being unhappy they are overlooked.
Milsap | 8:15 a.m. July 15, 2008
I remember watching Milsap play his heart out during the summer league and making a name for himself. It's no surprise that he got more minutes then Miles, even as a rookie. So far Miles has not shown he's worth much more then about a million per year.
The NBA, where earning your roster spot happens.
It's straight forward | 8:27 a.m. July 15, 2008
First you show them your talent, then they give you the money. CJ has it upside down. He's used to being a high school star and hasn't entered the world of reality.
ZEKE | 8:30 a.m. July 15, 2008
If you can`t prove what you can do who`s going to sign you. This guy has some talent but it seems he gets some bad advice. I expect the Jazz will end up signing him as they did last year.
?? | 9:14 a.m. July 15, 2008
Mabye the Jazz should pony up and offer him a 3 year deal now - It worked for AK
akk | 9:15 a.m. July 15, 2008
Miles doesn't want to be here that is clear. He has a chance to be good and may in another organization but he doesn't have the heart to deal with Sloan or the competition for playing time. I hope someone gives him the money that the Jazz won't match and we can see Almond play... he has talent and the right attitude.
bob carlisle | 9:33 a.m. July 15, 2008
if the jazz want cj happy they would stop signing or trading for other players. we need a backup point guard and a true center not a two guard or small forward.get rid of collins, and hart and work a trade to get rid of somebody, we just have too many sitters and not enough players. when your not playing you become a whiner and not a winner.
Basketkase | 9:55 a.m. July 15, 2008
Let CJ go. What has he done for the Jazz in three years? Nothing. He's had more chances than anyone deserves, and he still can't even make the full-time roster. He'll be out of the league in two years anyway, after bouncing around to four or five teams in that span. CJ is a drain for money and reseources. Cut him loose and cut your losses, Jazz. I honestly think that if he'd gone to college, he would have fizzled out and never made it to the NBA anyway.
SteveW | 10:16 a.m. July 15, 2008
Miles is a fool. Even if he doesn't want to play for the Jazz, the smart thing to do would be to showcase his talent at the Revue for other teams to see. On top of that, it shows the Jazz and any other team that he really is interested in being a serious NBA baller. Once again he is sending a message that he is not serious about his game. Stupid. Here's hoping another team makes him an offer and the Jazz don't match. We don't need another chronic pine-rider.
CJ's Mom | 10:23 a.m. July 15, 2008
Get off CJ's back! He has great advisors and knows what he is doing. He was told that he will be the next Michael Jordan or at least the next Pace Mannion. But CJ does not miss lay ups like Pace did and he does not look like a plastic faced freak on TV like Pace.
Lazy | 10:34 a.m. July 15, 2008
CJ is typical of many "semi"-pro athletes today. The only thing professional about them is that they get paid to be on the team. They have some natural talent, but far too many of them are too lazy to do any actual work to improve their talent.

CJ isn't anywhere close to good enough to rely solely on natural talent. A new crop of rookies enters the NBA every year and if CJ doesn't change his work ethic soon, he'll be out of the league and pumping gas for a living soon.
CJ wants to be traded | 10:42 a.m. July 15, 2008
Thats all this means.
Moto X | 10:59 a.m. July 15, 2008
All you whiners complaining about Sloan and CJ. Sloan wants players to work hard and play so they can succeed. CJ has an offer on the table to sign and won't do it. He could play risk free. Nope. His stupid agent tells him to sit and wait all summer again..for what?? Probably the same thing as last year..no/little interest from anyone else.

I mean it is not like it would take alot of money for the Jazz not to match. Yet, where are the offers?? Some of you act like CJ is this superstar who has been benched. If he was, another team would give him a couple of mill and the Jazz could not afford to match and he'd be gone. Other teams do not think he is worth 1/30th of their salary cap. That ought to tell you something.

He has himself to blame for missing out on all the Jazz practices/workouts by not signing his contract offer and coming to play. He will be in the doghouse where he belongs if he shows up this fall out of shape again. He has some talent I think--what a waste. Hopefully Almond can play some D.
BJ Jazzy Rasta | 11:06 a.m. July 15, 2008
Ronnie Price wasn't even drafted. Four years ago, he got invited to Summer League in Vegas. On that summer league performance alone, he earned a two-year contract with Sacramento. That NEVER happens!! True Cinderella story! We all know that Price has earned our respect and his dues because he plays the game with passion. He's made spectacular plays on the court, yet remains humble and hungry for success. Everyone loves him for it, and he has proved himself.

What does this have to do with CJ Miles? If CJ was confident in his abilities, he would jump at the opportunity to showcase his skills and dominate the Rocky Mountain Review.

Joe Dumars is a class act and one of the NBA's hardest workers. He WILL NOT be impressed with CJ holding his agent's hand with the other hand open looking for money and credit he's yet to earn. Poor kid. Its obvious he's getting horrible advice from people who undoubtedly are more selfish and greedy than himself.

I understand to some degree not playing to risk injury, but that is ridiculous. Every time a player laces them up, he takes that risk. CJ- PLAY!!!!
Henry Drummond | 11:49 a.m. July 15, 2008
I suspect he is following his agent's advice. The thinking is that with all the playing time he has in real NBA games he has little to gain by showcasing his talents against lesser competition and much more to loose especially if he gets injured or simply doesn't play well.

The real reason to be part of a summer league is to get better in the Jazz system. If he were committed to playing for the Jazz he would certainly show up. Of course when the only thing the Jazz are willing to give CJ are "qualifying offers" to retain the rights to him, he and/or his agent may be questioning how committed the Jazz are to CJ.

Personally I would advise him to just sign the offer , go to the camps, and be a better Jazz player. I think that would work out much better in the long run for CJ.
CJ's busy | 11:57 a.m. July 15, 2008
He's writing a book about making it in the NBA.

It's called "All I Ever Needed To Know About Playing In The NBA I Learned In Highschool".
RE: CJ's Busy | 12:08 p.m. July 15, 2008
That's just funny.
Grant | 12:18 p.m. July 15, 2008
I always like CJ he has flashes of brillance (potenial) but I think the time has come for him to make the step to the next level, sitting at home playing video games does not help him accomplish that, maybe he should talk to Carl about off season work ethic. Unfortunaly it appears that he will be one of those players with unrealized potenial.
Sign the offer, CJ | 1:00 p.m. July 15, 2008
He has an offer on the table, but won't sign it. It's not a multi-year, big dollar deal, with good reason: He hasn't earned it. On a team in need of a big 2 guard, he can't earn minutes. That says it all.
sparks24 | 1:22 p.m. July 15, 2008
CJ Miles is a potential Al Star if the Jazz let him go they will live to regret that choice PERIOD!!!! This kid is 21 years old with super talent you must play this kid. Jazz you heard it here first this kid is of ALL STAR ability!!!1
MADRYBEG | 1:44 p.m. July 15, 2008
Every athlete is in the business for the $. Miles wants a quick buck and out. This will provide his wish.
MadMax | 2:23 p.m. July 15, 2008
CJ is not all All-Star in the making. He can't evenearn regular playingtime on the JAzz who need a 2 guard that can play defense, drive to the hole, hit the open jumper and be consistant for 3 point range. Brewer can do several of those things, so can Korver and Almond. If CJ was even # 2 in those areas he would get regular playing time. That he is not willing to suck it up, get his butt here to play, learn and get in shape and be a man says it all.
We need to sign him and trade him. If we get a 2nd round pick for him that will be a good deal. He may have limited succes on another team, but he will never be the 'man' and hs team will never go far in the play-offs. Too bad he could have been a decent role player here. Often agents give their clients very poor advice and just as often those clients take that bad advoce to their deteriment.
Just Me | 2:29 p.m. July 15, 2008
All NBA players are overpaid babies. CJ is one of them. Its not about basketball for 95% of them. Its about the money and the fame. Just because you are tall and good at basketball doesnt mean you can waltz right on an NBA team and get millions...oh wait that does happen...
Bg | 2:31 p.m. July 15, 2008
Nobody is denying CJ has talent. but why should the Jazz give him a big contract. They gave him a qualifying offer. Thats all they need to do and then decide whether to match any other offers he gets. Its called negotiation. The problem is CJ is hurting himself and his career and losing leverage by refusing to play in summer league. Also why aren't there 28 other teams falling all over themselves to offer him a contract if at this stage in his carrer he's worth more? Watch what happens next year with Paul Milsap who is 10 times the player right now that CJ is and playing for a 1/3 less money. The Jazz will offer him a qualifying offer, Either the minumum or what they feel he's worth and then hopefully be able to match any offers he gets. Its the same with DWill. If for some insane reason they can't agree on an extension they will have the right to match any other offer next summer. Thats how the CBA works.
Carl? | 2:32 p.m. July 15, 2008
Did someone really mention Karl Malone's work ethic and spell it "Carl"??? I really don't like to point out mis spellings, but how can you call yourself a Jazz fan and spell it "Carl"? But you are right, Jon Stockton and Carl Malone did have a good work ethic in the off season.
Whatyagonnado? | 2:42 p.m. July 15, 2008
The Jazz can afford to let CJ go, they are already to deep at gaurd anyway. Let Almond step up and keep Price as well. Trade Hart, Collins, and C.J. and Get some more height! And to the guy who was bashin Korver, he'll shoot a higher percentage than CJ any Day!!!
RE:Whatyagonnado | 2:44 p.m. July 15, 2008
Cj has the highest 3pt% on the team!
yep | 3:13 p.m. July 15, 2008
Because he only shot ten of them. He only averaged five points and 5 minutes a game more than me!
JazzFanInHouston | 3:25 p.m. July 15, 2008
Miles may be more likely to get an offer from another team if there is controversy between him and Sloan. The sitout is a move by his agent.

The Jazz will play Miles anytime they really need him. That won't be often is Almond is ready. on the other hand Miles has NBA experience and has played well when he did play. He is a known quantity to other clubs.
Rere:whatyagonnado | 3:34 p.m. July 15, 2008
That's not hard when CJ only took a few all season. I guarantee if your man CJ and Korver had a 3 point shoot out, Korver would kill him.
get rid of him | 3:45 p.m. July 15, 2008
Miles doesn't want to be here, so just let him go. He gets 10 minutes a game, which is a tremendous waste of his talent, and he's playing for a coach who's notorious for not playing young players. Give the spot to someone who's earned it, like Almond. He spent most of his rookie year in the D-League and took it as a chance to get better, which he did. Try putting Miles in that league and see what he says.
Moto X | 3:52 p.m. July 15, 2008
re:jazzfaninhouston

Aaah, he tried the "sit-out" last year and it will get him the same thing it got him last year--that would be the league minimum qualifying offer AND the end of the bench. If you all you do is act like you are too good to play on a team that you are not good enough to get minutes on, you probably are not politically endearing yourself to that organization.

You say CJ is a "known entity" to other clubs, I guess that would be why he can't get ANY offer over the league minimum?

CJ needs playing time in games in the Jazz system. He has a chance to get that to show his talent and he won't take it.

His agent is a fool. If they try something once and it does not work perhaps his agent ought to try something besides "hey, come work out in NY with my brother like you did last year". Obviously that worked out well having CJ show up out of shape to get that last seat on the bench.

The self destruction is sad to watch for a kid that has some talent.
Sports insantiy | 5:39 p.m. July 15, 2008
RE; yep: ask a statistician, ( i have talked to guy who has Ph.d in statistics) 10 is large to get a valid result!

Sloan is ruining CJ like many other young players that have come throught the organization.

I do not understand this blind love people have for sloan, but I guess the weakminded will believe anything the the media and the jazz tell them.

Use your own brains. see how he treats players, see how coaches DURING a game, see his i,nblity to make adjustments quickly if at all, see inability to develop and play rookies and young players.

He gets a couple of star players ( always a point guard and powerforward, thats his system) then rides them until they break down (at the end of seasons and playoffs) to get winning seasons and ultimate playoff losses, and he is a great coach?
RE: RE: idiots | 5:49 p.m. July 15, 2008
Most of those players you mention were ruined by sloan before they left.

And are now just shell of thier former selves.

By the way players like blue edwards and shandon anderson did just well statistically with other teams or were never that good to start with.

And some like deshaun stevenson and raja bell, sahsa pavlovic have done even better.

funny how you didn't mention them, but i guess they didn't prove your point.

An humphries first name is Kris, so I guess it's just you who forgot.

Most of the players you mentioned were young and unproven, and probably would not have succeeded no matter who drafted them. and some the jury is still out because they so young, like kris humphries.
Eugene | 7:15 p.m. July 15, 2008
Trade CJ, Collins and Hart and get a single player that can dribble, shoot, rebound and show the will to play the game. Combine CJ, Collins and Hart and you wouldn't get such a player. CJ could be great, but he hasn't shown the desire in the off season to prove he could be a great player. Dump your agent!!
Work harder | 11:09 p.m. July 15, 2008
Rookies generally don't do great with Sloan because they don't know the level of work required in NBA systems. Any player that is willing to play hard and work hard will get respect, and time from Sloan.
There are three young players on the Jazz who were all drafted by the Jazz, but worked hard and earned there minutes (some even played in the RMR, novel idea): Milsap, Brewer, and Williams.
If CJ wants to play, and get a respectable contract, he has to prove he's worth it.
Marty | 6:43 p.m. July 17, 2008
I don't think the numbers would support that Raja Bell did better with Phoenix than he did with Utah. It is also notable that the Jazz were forced to expose players in the expansion draft and ended up losing Pavlovic to the Bobcats in 2004. I think the Jazz would have liked to have kept him and developed him. Oddly, he held out and didn't play nearly as well for Cleveland this year. (This not related to Sloan's coaching style at all.) Finally with regards to Kris and DeShawn, Kris seemed to play better off the bench for his new team, but has never been the NBA scorer that was hoped for after his College days. He may have been better after his move and it may have been the shock of the move rather than the change in coaching. DeShawn clearly has played much better in the Washington system. This was a good move for him, but the Wizards do seem unlikely to ever win more than a playoff series due to the disorganized play. So, with a move, improvement, but less likely to ever get out of the first round. (I know, Jazz haven't won it all here...)
Kenmond | 9:21 p.m. July 17, 2008
Cj is doing what he needs to do. CJ works out hard every summer. He did not come to camp last year out of shape. Sloan is just mad he is not playing in that pick up game that they call the jazz camp. You dont go to work without getting paid, so why should CJ?
