No thanks.
I'll side with Walch on this one | 8:26 a.m. July 16, 2008
Granted, he may have devoted too much space to this issue, but he did give Mr. Greentstreet a taste of his own medicine. And now look who's continuing to stir things up. If it's such a "non-issue," why even bother writing up such a lame rebuttal? Go back to your important filmmaking, Mr. Greenstreet.

So when someone writes an article bashing you, it is a waste of space because he should be addressing important issues. So your rebuttal is not a waste of space? Shouldn't you be addressing more important issues with your writing? I had a hard time taking the rest of the article seriously after that statement.

I find this incredibly funny....especially when Mormontimes.com has an article today about "what the devil made me do" (referring to blogging and posting).....Life is pretty interesting, isn't it?
Why so serious? | 10:20 a.m. July 16, 2008
Greenstreet tried to prove that Walch was a liar by stating "facts" and "evidence". I live here in Utah County, and I'm not persuaded by such things. And, it would appear, all these comments agree with me. Walch speaks for all us not dissuaded by reality.
Geezer | 11:10 a.m. July 16, 2008
Thanks, "Why so serious?" for the best response I've seen in the Deseret News in a long time. The only problem is that the folks in Utah County won't understand your use of irony---otherwise they wouldn't be pseudo-patriotic and superficial at the same time.
Quick Question | 12:31 p.m. July 16, 2008
Hey Jammy...
If Walch misrepresented the truth and all it would have taken to fix was a phone call but printed lies anyway, why does he get the point for this one...
That really doesn't make any sense.
I'm not going to read anything Walch has to say again.

Quick Question #2 | 1:17 p.m. July 16, 2008
Whaaa, if that is your real name, why is Greenstreet a whiny loser if he responded to lies printed about him in the paper?
If someone printed a pack of lies about you in the paper, wouldn't you want a chance to respond?

Greenstreet was right about the booing of a soldier. BYU fans showed a complete and brainless lack of tact for a moment there. There should have been cheers, not boos...especially at an event held ostensibly to celebrate the nation and those who defend it.

So, people in Utah County are all for lying as a means to an end so long as the person "is on their side". This explains their blind support for GW Bush and much much more.
When's the last time ... | 6:37 p.m. July 16, 2008
Walch used the word "rectum" to describe a group of people?
Anonymous | 9:58 p.m. July 16, 2008
Greenstreet said, "We produced what dozens of critics across the country called one of "the most balanced documentaries ever made" that "lets both sides have their say." Balderdash. His producer, Phil Gordon, brought John Strossel to Utah Valley State College. Strossel and was shown a cut of the movie. In public Strossel said the film was not balanced and was propaganda. I would certainly believe him over the college club film reviewers looking excuses to bash Mormons.
Greenstreet lied, stole and manipulated to get this UVSC class project made. His path is lined with discarded people. He did not have enough material to get his bias across so he had to give his producer, Phil Gordon, a part as a noble radical professor. This was a major ethical breech that would get him fired on the spot at any credible media company. He also had to steal footage and lie about who he was to get interviews. UVSC put major resources into it the film and Greenstreet ended up with a major portion of the profits. Educational taxes at work.
So now we have Greenstreet on the other side of the camera and he can't take the heat.

@Quick Question 12:31.
If you see a news feature with two columns about a particular issue, one arguing the position you happen to agree with, and the other against, which do you read, and with most interest and focus?
Might I suggest to you, and all other thinking readers, that you should read most carefully that which espouses the view countering your own. If all you ever listen to or read are those things with which you already agree, then your insight will be limited indeed.
We ought not shy away from a good debate, and we ought to listen most carefully to those with whom we disagree, if only to sharpen our own reasoning against them.
@Why so serious 10:20.
I wish I had your wit. I really do. I think I'm reasonably intelligent, but I'm dry as a bone. You, sir, are fun to read, even if you are a liberal with a chip on your shoulder.

Dear Anonymous,
Stossel (no R) never saw the movie and based on your opinion about it, it doesn't sound like you have either.
And your knowledge of the "behind the scenes" goings on is false conjecture at best.
And the reviews of the film that called it balanced came from places like TV Guide and the New York Times.

half of the comments made are obviously from Greenstreet and his sidekick Bryan.
As for greenstreet's rebuttal, I would think that it would have been at least decent since it took days to write, but it wasn't.

cheers not boos | 10:18 a.m. July 17, 2008
byu fans did cheer the for the soldier. They only booed the U. then everyone laughed. it wasn't the disgraceful conduct that greenstreet fabricated.
The exact same thing would have happened if the concert was held at the U and the soldier said he was a byu fan. or if it was at ucla and the soldier said he was a usc fan. People would cheer the soldier and boo the rivalry school.
mr greenstreet, you accuse mr walch of wasting space on this issue. I'm glad he did, because his points were timely and dead on. He was right to call you out and expose you. I for one am sick and tired of people like you making mountains out of molehills and creating conflict.

I think I agree more with Mr. Walch here. Mr Greenstreet seems like he just wants to push buttons by exposing things that shouldn't be exposed, such as, facts about Utah County's "hypocracy" and Mr Walch's "lies". Mr. Greenstreet should have left these facts alone. Life's just way too good to waste it worrying about reality.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy,
and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a
parliment, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding
of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, denounce the pacifists
for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger. It works the same way in any country."

This issue seems less about patriotism or lack thereof and more about Mr. Greenstreet's desire to constantly be the center of attention. Let's face it, we all like attention, but Greenstreet seems to have an unhealthy obsession with it. However, you got to give him credit, he seems to know how to get attention, and poor Mr. Walsh is just giving him more publicity by writing his poorly written editorial.
RangerGordon | 4:40 p.m. July 18, 2008
Ha! Greenstreet is full of win today.
As for "another anonymous" 11:38, you may not realize it, but in the film industry, publicity and marketing are vital concerns. Having a "desire to be the center of attention" has nothing to do with it--it's just part of the job.

A quick response to a few issues brought up in Greenstreet's response and in the comments:
1.The footage of Cecil Samuelson at the BYU Q & A was not manipulated in anyway. Deseret News simply distorted the facts. Greenstreet is correct.
2. From my understanding (and personal witnesses), the rumors of Greenstreet stealing footage for This Divided State, receiving director credits because UVSC wanted to distance themselves legally from the film, and more or less backstabbing the many students who worked diligently on the film, are true. That doesn't mean the film is trash. It just means that Greenstreet burned bridges with nearly every student involved in the project.
3. Walch's editorial is terrible journalism. His editorial belongs perhaps in the blogosphere, but NOT in print. I'm surprised Deseret News provided so much space for such a poorly written article that reads like an extended comment on the web.
4. Why would Walch immaturely dismiss Greenstreet's newest film without first seeing it? Lame.
5. Though I don't think This Divided State is very good, at least it's one of the few attempts in this area to present provocative information about the numbing region that is Provo and Orem.
