You've got to love progress. I drive slower. I live in California. The difference to San Francisco From Sacramento is about 12 minute diving 65 and not 80.

Its true that driving faster does not save much time but stcuk in that bottleneck going north is not fun. I don't know tha answer to that problem.

The answer is simple, install more public transportation that runs with good service and at a reasonable cost. Better public transportation can solve most of the problems regards time and cost.

Ultra Bob - I'd love to have light rail out in Davis County. Instead, UTA gives us Front Runner. The thing runs empty all weekend. There is a huge difference between a high speed commuter rail that takes you to west SLC and a light rail line that would hook in to the main system and take you out to the airport, university, downtown, the south end, etc.

What a waste.

Your argument doesn't hold any water. When was the last time you were able to travel even 55 MPH during normal commute times?
The only place the speed limit would be raised is on rural highways where everybody already drives too fast. The time saved isn't anywhere near worth the increased danger from idiots going 80 while talking on the cell phone.

That's the way it is. Accept it! Those who drive 80 are breaking the law and should be heavily fined; and talking on the cell phone while doing this: the fines should be double!

No one is going to slow down, and no one even wants to. So why bother trying to slow everyone down. The world already absorbs more time then anyone wants to give. So why should I waste time going slow on my way to places? I'm not saying speed. But I am saying slowing down is asking too much of my time which is already in high demand.

I'm seeing a lot of selfcenteredness here. If you want to save gas, then slow down. Most people are not driving so far that time is a factor. The difference between 80 mph (which is illegal) and 60 mph to travel 60 miles is 15 minutes, and most of us don't go half that far in this valley. And even at 60 mph, you had better be paying attention to the road, not the scenery. Since when is any individal's time so important that the lives and safety of others and the well being of our nation is not?

Thomas,

I think you (and everyone) ought to read Walter E William's analysis of saftey vs. function. You'll find it doesn't contradict your opinion, but may open your eyes to the limitations of safety measures' ability to make us safe.

Ever actually drive that stretch of road during rush hour. 55 would seem like mach 9.
