I think about this every time I drive to Donner Lake or see Gold Rush tons in California's foothills. If only my family wouldn't have half stepped in 1847 and gone to the end of the rainbow in California.

And let's not forget that many of those pioneers followed instructions from the prophet and settled in neighboring states as well. Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming and Nevada, not to mention California, can thank those same pioneers for their sacrifices. It may only be celebrated, officially, in Utah but much of the west owes a thank you to those who sacrificed much to settle the barren west.

Too much emphasis on the past time to move on the - the Pioneers were not the only settlers to Utah and yet never is their history or struggles recognized here in Utah. Many a people had family that helped settle this great nation and all should be celebrated with the same respect.

Most of their struggles, they brought on themselves.

The first pioneers that stepped into this valley were not in 1847, just the first ones who stayed.

I'm glad that my ancestors chose to come to Utah. Life's been good, but it might have been even better if they'd just pushed on to Oregon. Have you ever been there? That place is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Oh well, go pioneers! Thanks for the sacrifices--you just had no way of knowing what else was possible--and I forgive you. I know you did the best you could.

So Pioneer Day is Mormon only?

So Pioneer Day is Mormon only?

Yup! What other kind of pioneers are there?

Mr. Curtis is wrong in his assumption that the great state of Utah wouldn't exist. The reality is that Utah would pretty much resemble the other states in the mountain west, they are all great!

Any excuse to support barley farmers and malting companies.
