Great decision, Coach. You have built a terrific program at SUU and will have an even better squad next season. This may be a shock to folks north of Utah County, but Cedar REALLY is a great place to live and much is happening at SUU to get excited about. Too bad not many give the T Birds credit for what's happening on campus!

This doesn't say much about USU athletics when they've been turned down by a handful of assistants and a head coach at SUU. USU has let gymnastics wallow under Corn for the last 20 years or more and he became complacent in his position with no enthusiasm....recruiting badly, coaching badly. Now, after being paid more than 100k per year and getting retirement, Corn can ride off into the sunset knowing that he did nothing to build up the program. In fact, he destroyed it. Now USU is paying the price for being an annual member of the old boys network. Too bad, so sad, but as they say, you get what you deserve.
Nice to keep you, Scott! | 5:22 p.m. July 24, 2008
Just so you know, Tom, SUU's gymnastics program is nothing to sneeze at.
Scott Bauman has built them into a nationally ranked program that is competitive in the conference and consistently draws 2,000 fans to home events.

Tom... WOW! I believe you are the only person in Logan that feels Coach Corn has destroyed this program. He has done nothing but good things for USU Gymnastics & is an icon in many fans eyes. If the administration was one half as committed as Coach Corn was, the team would be in a much better place. Everyone who has applied for his position has turned down the offer, being the offers have been pretty weak. The administration needs to show a little more support towards these very talented gymnasts and USU program. Coach Corn will be extremely missed by the community & his team. His shoes will be hard to fill, but hopefully the administration will step up to the plate & offer what it'll take to keep this program going. The USU gymnasts need a coach NOW! These girls deserve more credit than they are getting from the administration. Best of Luck to Coach Corn... You will truly be missed!

Tom... Your half right. I agree that it does not say much about USU athletics. IT's not Coach Corns fault though. It's the administration. What these events demonstrate is that Corn was able to do a whole lot with a whole little. These other guys come in filled with high hopes, but after visiting with the administration, they're like "HUH???... I have to do all this with only THAT???" These candidates are making more in Cedar City, or Missouri, or wherever, they have a larger budget and the administration supports them. USU may looks good from the outside, but once you get inside it must really look bad. Forget about the top candidates declining the position. Why would a junior coach from a second rate school turn down an opportunity to be a head coach at a D-1 school? The administration. Goodness, look how they threw Coach Corn under the bus. His health??? Come on now... The guy runs miles every day. Something smells fishy. Why are these candidates not accepting the position??? Must be the lack of competence the new administration puts forth. My guess is you can pick it up in casual conversation... and it sends them running away!!
