The big problem with drinking and driving isn't drinking, it's driving. I wonder what the typical drinking ages are in countries that haven't become overwhelmed by a culture of auto dependency, and how well those ages work for them.

If they are old enough to vote, get drafted and kill people, why not allow them to drink alcohol? You punish misuse, not prevent use. Treat them like adults but prepare them for the transition better and you will find more of them as responsible drinkers.
After all, it is only booze, not getting pregnant and having your mom run for VP of the USA.

If I ran a college or university, the last thing I would want is a lower drinking age. If drinking is legal on campus, universities will provide alcohol at social events. This subjects them to the over-serving laws, and makes them liable, in part, for every drunken driving case. When a college student gets drunk at Oktoberfest and then rapes a fellow student, the college will be exposed to legal liability.

I'm sorry, maybe I missed a preamble about this column somewhere, but why does the Deseret News publish this trite drivel? Sarcasm and grade school puns have no place in a so-called professional newspaper.

Mahonri- "If they're old enough to vote, get drafted, and kill people," why not allow them to shoot-up heroin at the mall? And- why do you attack teenage girls?

What Hatuletoh said. Leave the snark to us professional commenters!

18 doesn't make you an adult, that is just an arbitrary picking ( by legislators no less ) of and age to give someone more rights.
There is no magic pixie dust that gets dumped on your head when you turn 18 making think act and behave like an adult.
Anything arbitrarily chosen can be un chosen.
