Yes, I feel the same way about all politicians. Is it possible to be honest and straightforward and win at this game. Romney is a very good man for those who know him personally. Politics is a strange world. Do you feel the same about Harry Reid?

Mr. Wadley wrote, "His remarks were disingenuous, self-serving and despicable."
Eric should have added, downright embarrassing as well.
And we wonder why people continue to ask 'Are Mormons Christians?'
I suspect that in his campaigning and muck raking Brother Romney (can I still call him that?) has missed one too many Sunday School classes.
Come back to church Brother Romney. Learn about the Gospel of peace preached from the pulpit and taught in Sunday School classes throughout the Church and consider how it my be applied in your everyday life to make the world better.
Please come back before its too late.

Mitt is a self-serving opportunistic egotist.
Not so! | 6:59 a.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Romney was not only not bad, but his talk was FANTASTIC!!!!
As usual, he told the truth in a fashion not accepted by those who don't understand the truth and generally don't want to hear it!
Many people listened to his talk (including myself) and then wondered "how and why did America let this man get away???).
He is honest, moral, ethical, intelligent, spirit driven, Christ centered and wise.
Apparently America doesn't recognize goodness anymore... such a shame

I was a Romney supporter when he was running for the GOP nominee, and I believe he has done a pretty good job recently putting party above himself, but this last speech impressed no one. Most of my coworkers are GOPers, and they like Romney, but this speech was very underwhelming to them and me. Every other previous GOP nominee did a much better job. The writer of this editorial is right - it seems like Romney decided to jump right in to the muck - he's been close to it recently, but this recent speech was the both feet in approach.

The struggles of the confused liberal members of the LDS church.

Eric,
You live your life and let Romney live his. He is a great man and has done and will do much good in this life.
ps. just what lies did he supposedly tell?

Ditto. Mitt turns out to be just another party hack.

Would'nt expect anything less from him he is self serving and arrogant and not a very good ambassador for the LDS religion.

Ya'know, Eric, I wish you had taken a little time out from your tirade to include some examples of something from Gov. Romney's talk that gave you such indigestion.
Perhaps it is because I was not able to listen to his talk and am therefore unable to better appreciate the possible reasons for your obvious distain. Something I was able to detect from your comments Such as the fairly strong, “His remarks were disingenuous, self-serving and despicable.”
For all I know, had I too heard his remarks, I might agree with you. But I must admit to growing skepticism when you ended with the gratuitously ad hominem attack of self-righteously suggesting that Gov. Romney seek a more “humble” life, “instead of continuing to seek ways to bloat his already swelled head.”
In that I think you revealed more of your own character than that of Gov. Romney. Which leads me to better understand your admission that you are, like everyone (including Gov. Romney), “hugely imperfect”.

What a ridiculous letter! The writer must be the Democrat chairman for his local precinct.
Romney was magnificent at the convention and gave an outstanding speech. He did exactly what he should have done.
Mitt made an heroic effort in his campaign for president. The man is big enough and classy enough to get over his loss and be a good soldier in the cause. That is the measure of the man. He deserves the admiration of us all.

This letter is a bit too harsh, I think. Romney gave a speech at his party's national convention that was critical of the other party and its candidates. What's so bad about that? Does anyone expect something else?
The political campaign is not yet over, and Romney has not decided on his path for the future. He may have plenty of money to do just about anything he wants, but we shouldn't judge now what that should be. Give him some time to get away from the campaign, and if his past is prologue to his future, he will do admiral things with his good name, his money, and his many talents.

Romney has been a big disappointment and seems willing to say whatever the party wants him to. In fact, the RNC was little more than four days of speeches blasting Dems personally and blaming them for everything wrong in the world capped by McCain's 45 minute speech saying he would treat dems and republicans equally and work together.

Let's hear is for a Palin/Romney ticket in 2012. With the new shinning star for the Republicans stepping out onto the national stage, can anyone think that Sarah Palin will take second to Mitt Romney?
Can you say "pander"? Romney has finally come to terms with the evangelican Christian demographic so dear to his aspirations and a former PTA president and beauty queen steps in his way.
Too bad. So sad.

A great deal of people in Utah view Mitt as a mythical figure not recognizing that he is just a politician who changes his views depending on his audience. He is certainly not a bad man, but he is certainly a politician.

I watched every minute of both conventions (in the three hour versions) and I can tell you that though some speakers were bland or not polished in their delivery, none save Mitt gave pandering drivel. This guy is so needy it reeks. Ground Al Gore's jet? Now there is a constructive suggestion for all that ails the world! Now if he wanted to make a splash, he could have said: "I challenge Al Gore to ground his jet as a first step to reduce warming and I pledge to do the same and I challenge all in the hall to take the same pledge!" But, no he would have been booed off the stage.
Anyone that doesn't think he changed his skin to run for President need only ask if he could be reelected in Mass.(liberalville USA) after giving a speech like that?? Not a chance.
PS. Those ridiculed Supreme Court judges that voted to grant review to Gitmo detainees? Seven of the nine were appointed by Repub Presidents. At least he could have made that disclaimer, but liberals are such an easy target.

I wonder who those Eastern liberal elitists are that Mitt was bashing?
Given that he went to a private prep school in Michigan rather than public school, he must have been bashing those guys that went to prep schools in the east like Andover Academy where Bush went.
Then he went to Stanford before his mission and BYU after. I guess he was bashing the guys who attended the eastern Ivy-league schools like Yale and Harvard (where Bush went).
Then, I guess he wanted to further bash the Ivy league law school where Obama got his law degree at Harvard (earth to Mitt, your law/MBA degrees are from Harvard too).
Then he made his fortune at Bain Capital in Boston. When he was the Mass Governor he donated to Planned Parenthood, supported gay rights and passed a universal health care plan for the state (all seem pretty liberal to me).
So, it all makes sense to me when I heard him bashing the eastern liberal elites. He knows them well from being one of them.
I just wish he had run as a Democrat where his moderate social stance and fiscal restraint would have been welcome, regardless of his religion.

Mitt's history. Move on! Palin got the touch down that put Mitt out of the game.

What I always find interesting reading the DesNews comments are the self-righteous comments typed on special holier-than-thou pc's. I'm a card carrying member and I find so many of you to actually be offensive with your "perfect" lives.
Mitt Romney was the best choice. Not because of his religion or that "hanging by a thread" nonsence. He has proved that he can be successful in difficult situations. Maybe next time.

Hi Itchy | 6:41 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Itchy: Look at the ABC's of this.
Reading these comments, we see a consensus that McCain and Palin are the perfect picks. They will surely win and be inspired leaders.
This Takes us to the 2016 election when Palin runs and wins. Mitt does get to run until 2020.
"Maybe next time." McCain took care of this. There won't be a next time.
"hanging by a thread" A steel cable might be more correct.

Hey itchy, you are most certainly correct about Mitt Romney. He was head and shoulders above everyone else in the Primaries. He remains head and shoulders above most of the politicians out there. He is a great example of a wonderful family man, husband, fiscal leader, man of integrity, economic genius, conservative leader etc. I agree with whoever it was that said we certainly did miss out. America was not very bright in January and February. I fear we will not get over it (not being bright!). There is however always hope!!!

I don't really condemn Romney for it. He's just human, like the rest of us, with his foibles and ambitions and all. It's just a little sad.
