Will the down southers now realize that Pine View isn't as good as originally thought?

I think Coach B could have been one of the best additions that Pine View has had. He is a great coach, bar none. I mean he didn't play for Lavell Edwards, like two people to remain namless this time, buy B was a great catch for the Panthers. You have done a great job B and even though it is with circle black I am happy for you.

Hats off to Cottonwood. You've got a great team and this may be your year to steal Timpview's thunder. CW has a big play offense and a more than adequate defense. This team has numbers just like Timpview last year (big, strong, fast, athletic kids at virtually every position) and they're well coached.
Having seen both teams play now, CW has a more explosive offense (Romero and Sofele are flat out better than their counterparts at TV), but TV's defense is a bit better in my opinion.
Pine View had no passing attack and was never in this game even with 300 yards rushing. The absence of wideout Robert Evans hurt, but even with him PV clearly doesn't have the numbers to hang with the Cottonwoods and Timpviews. My message to PV (and Dixie) would be this: good coaching is not enough. With 3A size student bodies (1000 students) you need to either get bigger, allow open enrollment or do both. Otherwise you need to convince our all wise UHSAA to put you back in 3A where you belong.

If Cottonwood can bring that level of intensity to every game, they will beat Timpview in the final.

Cottonwood played awesome last night. It is too bad that Pineview did not compete a little harder. We were expecting a closer game. If Cottonwood continues to play like they have the first three games, who knows, maybe this could be their year!!!

glad to see the south come north and not just for the title games...now they can go back down south and know for a surety that they can't hang with the north and we don't have to read about it all year...thanks

I attended the game last night and I was impressed with Cottonwood. I've commented on the lack of discipline in the past, especially last year.
This year the coach has turned their focus to execution, and it shows. I sat behind the bench, and the players were either involved in what was going on on the field, or getting feedback/direction from the coaches.
That sideline behaved a lot like the Urban Meyer sidelines, no crap, everyone into the game.
The only distractions were non players. There were several that had jobs on the sidelines, and they are not the problem. The problem were a few non essential civilians. Not sure if they were non starters, ex players or what, but they were the only ones that seemed to distract from the teams focus.
Overall the players and team looked great, and they look very well prepared. Good job coaches, starting with Thomas.

At least Pineview got crushed early instead of waiting fot the championship game.

CW, great game! CW.....1 of top 5 teams in state right now, including 5A. Martinez didn't impress me too much against Layton, but that tailback found some key holes in the last 7 minutes when CW took the game right out of Layton's hands.
You guys are showing you are not just 1 of the toughest teams in 4A, but in the state overall. A lot of people thought Layton choked losing to a 4A team. Yeah, Layton could've done things better and missed a couple last minute TD receptions, but bottom line, you guys took it from Layton on their howe field.

To Southern Utah Fan | 12:19 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I'm a TV fan, and although bias of course, I think the main thing that separates CW and TV is not talent, nor has it ever been, it's coaching.
TV has two college level coaches, while CW has a booster calling the plays. This matchup difference was magnified in the playoffs last year.
Not saying TV will win again this year, but I think coaching is a HUGE advantage for timpview.

As usual, you can't have a conversation without bringing TV into the mix.
How about if TV brings the intensity that only they can bring then CWood will be beaten, as they have been, by TV, in the last 2 years, DECIDEDLY, I might add.
Keep wishing, though. Perhaps your dreams may come true...ot they might become nightmares?

No CWood fan can start claiming they can take down timpview. maybe they will this year, but until you prove it on the field (as you obviously haven't) then better not be making those statements.

BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Don't be quick to set up a championship game now just because you took care of a mediocre team from way down south. If the gouts win the region outright then we'll see wassup. You still have to face the REMOOS and of course the LEPATI G FILOS CUH! Don't think about Timpview when Timpview is thinking about BYU.

CW, flawless game! Good luck the rest of the way.
In this blog, a few of us observed the seriousness of the loss of Evans to PV--his ability to stretch the field, to get off the jam, to defeat double coverage, for being the go-to guy on 3rd and 4th down, etc. In a feeding frenzy of fan denial, we were shouted down. We read how he was good, but not THAT good; That he had talent but PV had the talent to replace him; That younger receivers would "step up"; That a mention of his loss was disloyal at worst, irrelevant at best. PV's 3-game passing yards totals 307, 1 TD. Evans' output, same time last year? 12 catches, 285 yards, 3 TD.
We are STAUNCH Circle Black fans! We hope PV can go 10-0 the rest of the way! But perhaps now our past obserations about the loss of Evans will be understood as realistic assessment, instead of an irrational "love affair." And his loss isn't PV's only problem. "Southern Utah Fan"'s assessment of the PV-CW game is dead on. PV's got some work to do before Las Vegas.

What Counts? | 3:44 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I'll be brief. PV's hogs bench this and squat that but in the trenches last night CW's linemen on both sides of the ball owned PV. CW was mentally tough and PV wasn't. Ence is a stud, Hafoka's a fighter & Bangerter and Needham dealt some blows. Beyond that? Same thing vs. Timpview last year. TV came out baring their teeth, PV folded. What counts is individual toughness. Better get a whole lot more tough, PV. You've got some things to prove, now.
football fan | 8:17 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
It sure was good to see pineview get beat again by a northern team, so when are they going to stop talking all the smack. pineview is not good so shut up already, and how does it feel to get the score run up on you, like you do to all the las vegas teams.
Re: What Counts | 8:19 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Pretty obvious you're the typical fan watching the ball on every play. While it was certainly true that CW's offensive line with John M, Percy T and the rest did a beatdown on PV's D-line last night (500 + offensive yards from scrimmage), PV's O-line obviously did okay with PV getting some 300 yards rushing and giving up only one sack (that's the reason Ence can be a stud, genius). Other than an inability to get a defensive stop, PV's problem (especially in the first half) was receivers dropping 10 balls. BTW, other than falling on one fumble, Needham was out of position all night long (one of the obvious defensive problems).
Hey What Counts.. | 8:35 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I am sad to say that you are a PV fan-I for one have never been on these blogs bragging about PV being so awesome- "RE:What counts" is right. There was some adjusting and the DLine was fine in the second half- After all the score in the second half was 24 to 23- so we matched you score for score. Permanent adjustments need to made-and I am sure they will this week in practice- This was a good wakeup call for the boys-and a good lesson on learning how to play as a team and not individuals.
A PV Coach | 9:41 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Congratulations Cottonwood. You played very, very well and certainly impressed me with your poise and execution. Even more impressive was your former teammate, Stan Havili, who came up to us (coaches) after the game and asked if he could get on the PV team bus and talk to the guys afte the tough loss. What a class act. If you're turning out kids like that, you must be doing something right. In addition Coach Thomas and some of the others could not have been more gracious and friendly when we arrived for the game. You have my complete respect.

I love how many are quick to setup the championship game, this early in the season.
Region games haven't even been played, so there is still a ton of uncertainty in the air.
Before the playoffs begin, I guarantee at least 1 L, for C-Wood, maybe 2.
Obviously Pineview was exposed, for what they are, this year, and that is overrated!

Region 6 | 2:49 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I honestly doubt CW will loss 2 games in region play, have you even watched their offense? They execute so well and with the way romero is throwing id go as far as to say they have the best offense in the state. Defense isn't the best but it sure coming along.
Highland has always been a problem for Cottonwood over the last couple of years but no else but east should give Cottonwood a problem this year? Cottonwood has proved itself this preseason against both the 5a and 4a runner ups.
The Highland and East games should be good this year but i don't think either defense has what it takes to stop Cottonwood. That said i still hope highland and east do well because region 6 has got to make up for the mess of a playoffs last year.

pineview thought they could hang in the second half but really they were just getting garbage points, the sophomore special teams let them get those points.. but ence and Hafoka were impressive.

Everybody: Why do you people say they scored on the sophs and etc let them score.... Take a look at the film and see the D1 player on the line being pushed around, even brought him in on D to try to help, good kid but met his match. Pine View was beaten in the first half, not the second, admit it. Cottonwood is good team, made the long plays, helped PV see their work areas. Good luck to CW, they should beat Timp if they play the way they did against PV
To Region 6 | 4:03 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I'm sure it poses a problem, for Highland, East, and all Region 6, on how they will be able to stop, or contain Cottonwood's high powered offense.
But, it works both ways, Cottonwood is not the only team, in Region 6, with a high octane offense. So, Cottonwood's defense will have to figure a way, to stop East and Highland's offenses.
Highland has the best defense in Region 6, bar none. Their defense is better this year, than last, when they beat Cottonwood.
There will be some good games, looking forward, in Region 6.

so CW would beat timpview if they played the way they did last friday?
was PV dominated that much (i.e., as much as the 50-0 whopping last November)?
If so, i'm excited for another CW vs. TV matchup and another overrated, overhyped PV team.

Just because | 4:58 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
CW put up some big numbers and pushed PV around one night doesn't mean that they are some kind of super power overnight. And just because PV let their emotions get the best of them and had a big letdown doesn't mean that they are not worthy of top 5 4A team. Sometimes when two teams full of high school kids enter a game with extreme emotion, things happen that allow one of the teams to run away with it. These lopsided wins happen in college and even in the super bowl. PV will recover and may end up being one of the last 4 teams fighting for the title. CW will probably be right there also. PV is not over rated and can beat any 4A team on any given night. If CW was in St. George for this game things may have been different.
!!!!!!!!!!!! | 5:46 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
stop predicting a teams year by one preseason game. what happens if Isi gets hurt or Romero. What happens if Ence gets hurt or the recievers start catching the ball come on theres still a lot more football to come
re just because | 6:09 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
You are dreaming.PV has a good team but can not compete with the top 4A teams up north, don't have any illusions on that cottonwood game thinking you were close in the second half.cottonwood was cruising and took a knee at PV 5 with there JV.If they played in St George the outcome would be the same, sorry but true.
to re just because | 7:24 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
The JV did not come in on the final drive UNTIL the knee- I too have the game film to show this. So quit living in your delusions.. If the game had been in St George it may have been different but we don't know- I will say this if the game had been in a neutral area there may have been some calls that were different.. For instance the OBVIOUS block in the back on CW on the first punt return. But hey it's all ok-PV will get to work and get it done when they need to. I for one am glad it happened now so the kids will have a chance to learn from it.

PV is overrated? They were picked to lose that game, and they lost it. In fact, they were picked to lose to Dominguez, and won. Does that mean they're underrated?
Just because a twelve-year-old fan comes on once in a while and says that PV can beat the New England Patriots does not make them "overrated".

Unbalanced Cottonwood | 10:35 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
I was impressed with Cottonwood's offense.
But their defense leaves much to be desired. Pineview had a lot of dropped passes, and miscues, otherwise, I think this game is much closer. In other words, I don't think Cottonwood's defense stopped Pineview, I think Pineview's offense stopped themselves.
No interest in either team, just a casual observer.

Well if you have game film your either a coach or a parent.I would say parent from the rest of your comments. All the things you have listed as your excuses for losing every team has to deal with every week. You think Cottonwood didn't have any bad calls?didn't drop any passes?etc. You came from St.George, was it too cold for the team?Listen,Cottonwood is a much better team no doubt!Play the game anywhere you want and you still lose by at lest 4 touchdowns.Don't be a whiner and deal with reality, only then can you get better.
re re re just because | 2:37 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
No one is whinning- PV got a beat down.. My point was quit saying the JV was in on that final drive.. Dont be stupid. And as for Cottonwood being much better- well in the first half they definately were. But in the second half they were neck and neck- you tell me I need to deal with reality-well so do you- the second half was evenly matched. 24-23.

Denile is not a river in Egypt!
Get real | 3:29 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Let's get real here. PV and CW are both good teams. They entered the game with high emotions on both sides. PV dropped some balls had some misques and their attitude went in the toilet for the first half. CW jumped on PV and the game was over before half time. PV could have rolled over and began to prep for Las Vegas next week. However they didn't. They decided to play the second half and score some points, but they still didn't make a game of it. Now before the CW fans start puffing up their chests and think that a big mental letdown won't happen to their team, think again. As fans, we can always hope that our boys don't have these bad days, but they do happen. Hopefully both CW and PV can win out the rest of their games and meet again. Maybe CW can play out of their heads again and beat down Timpview in the end, who knows. As a final note. The only reason the CW fans are making a big deal of this win, is that they know PV has a good program and beating them was a big deal.
re re re just because | 3:30 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
The JV QB was in on the last drive, # 9. Watch it on PCTV. There were a few Varsity receivers still in but didn't get the ball. The RB was also a Sophomore and was in on the last 3 Drives. If we had left Romero and Isi in and all our lineman and receivers the last 3 drives we would have had 21 more points. Think what you want, 24-23 and we did nothing our last 3 drives because of Subs coming in and out. I hope PV regroups and we can hopefully face you in the Semis at Utahs Stadium in Novemeber. Good Luck the rest of the way and winning your region so we can play again when the stakes are much higher.

Second chance | 4:08 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Let's give PV a 2nd chance before we go piling on to decide just how good they are. If they stub their toe against Las Vegas this week, then maybe this is not going to be a stellar year. If they beat down Vegas and go on to beat down the rest of the schedule, then the CW game was just a bad day. Let's wait and see.
Re Second chance | 4:32 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Agree, the piling on comes from some PV people making excuse after excuse for losing big.Hey,just say we got beat by a better team, learn from it and go on and win the rest of your games. If PV does that they will get a second chance at Cottonwood. It just gets to be a little much when you hear,It was bad calls,we won the second half,we had lots of dropped passes,if the game was played in St.George, enough already.
