keep rollin cwood, timpview cottonwood for a state final would be awesome.. but look out for sky view, haven't seen em but they sound pretty good.

I think Pleasant Grove should have been mentioned in the top 10. They out played Timpview in the firzt game of the season, killed Provo week two, and totally dominated an unbeaten Riverton team yesterday. You are rating Bingham, with 2 losses on potential, take a good look at Pleasant Grove and tell me they don't belong in the top 10.

Thanks for the great article. I was a dummy and picked Lone Peak to beat the T-Birds too... guess I learned my lesson their. I wouldn't be surprised if they take another undefeated season and 3-peat at state champions. The biggest problem in their way is Cottonwood! I would say Sky View too, but they always end up choking in the playoffs. You could call them the 4A Jordan. As for 5A region 1 looks to be stacked. Layton, N. Ridge, and Davis are the 3 top teams but Clearfield, Viewmont and even Syracuse are looking good. Only time will tell. Skyline, Alta, Bingham and Pleasant Grove make up the best of the rest as I see it. In 4A besides Timpview, Cottonwood, and Sky View, I think Highland, East, Mountain Crest, Bountiful, and Dixie will all have to play a near perfect game to knock off one of the top 3, but never say never! Thanks again for the great article, this season is shaping up to be awesome.

so what? | 3:17 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
yea, give South Summit credit for beating 3 1A teams. Not that impressive!
ALTAFAN | 3:33 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
looks like Alta and Juan Diego are dominating... Maybe Sandy and Draper is where the talent is at. Pleasnt Grove fan...Riverton, Provo, and Timpview aren't much to brag about. As much as I dislike Bingham they earned their spot in the top ten a lot more then you have. Once you play some big teams maybe, but not yet.

"Clearfield, Viewmont and even Syracuse are looking good." Nope. Maybe looking good now, but wait til region play. They are a notch below Layton, NOrthridge and DAvis. Davis won't get consistency they need from their Sophy QB all year. Layton & Northridge will battle for Region 1 top spot. SYracuse overrated right now....and will continue being so, til they prove themselves. Clearfield a flop again, and Viewmont....mediocre at best.
Friday Night Rider | 6:37 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I agree the Davis Layton and N. Ridge are the class of region 1. That is why I mentioned them first. However, I think that Clearfield, Viewmont and Syracuse will all battle for a playoff spot. Of course I wasn't saying they were as good as the for mentioned teams, but they aren't doing so bad. Clearfield beating Bonneville and Syracuse beating Mtn. View each gave them solid wins- not the best, but it proved that they are good teams... not state champion teams, but good teams. Thanks for your input.
Congrats | 8:46 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Congrats to Canyon View on their 2nd win of the season. They beat Millard and last week beat Emery. The Falcons didn't win any last year.
Beating Millard may not be impressive, but they usually have a solid team. This year they are struggling. Beating Emery usually impresses no one except Emery just beat Desert Hills (who had beaten Uintah and Salem Hills).
Bottom line: Coach Huxford is doing a great job. The Falcons have a shot of getting win #3 as they have Desert Hills later in the year.

PG | 9:02 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
you obviously havent seen them play or they would be up in the Top of your rankings. Remember, they were 1 yd or 1 second short of beating Timpview. If htey played them now, I think they would beat them as they are excelling each week. Ask Riverton-PG played Sophs and JV the entire 4th quarter.
What | 9:05 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Im not an Altamont fan but the article say no 1A teams won agianst a bigger school......Altamont pounded Carbon.

Can we give some love to the Hurricane Tigers? They are 3-0 now and are passing the ball!!! The Tigers score early and often!
Top 10 | 11:49 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
When a team is in the top 10 like Alta and Bingham were, talk about them, who cares. They are # 1 and we want to hear about them. That game had more fans attending the game than the top other five schools had totaled watching their games combined. Don’t apologize for writing about great teams when they play each other. Alta is number one in all rankings, they earned it. Thanks for covering what we all love to read.
alta to PG. | 12:38 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Close but no cigar... I'm not saying PG isn't good. If you can beat some of the bigger powerhouse teams then I'll definately say welcome to the top ten. Hopefully there's a lot of good things in store for PG, but teams like Bingham, Skyline, Hunter, and Alta are where you earn the respect. Beat one of them and I'll be the first one to have your back as far as deserving to be in the top ten. Schools like Riverton and Provo though... I think Riverton still plays Lehi sometimes?! They only deserve the sophs and JV. Provo I don't know much on but I do know they aren't really a force to be reckoned with in comparison to the big teams. Hopefully you'll get to play one of the big boys soon, and afterwards hopefully see you in the top ten!

No way Bingham ranked ahead of Layton. Bingham had a convincing win, but so did Layton against Jordan. Only loss for Layton, against, who you're saying is #3 in the state, Cottonwood. Layton should also be ranked ahead of Northridge, as they didn't impress against a team they should've beaten by more than 14 pts.

AA, you're missing the boat with the top REgion 1 game. Top game by far should be Jordan-Bingham. Viewmont is overrated and Syracuse is young and ignorant (in a good way) right now. Although undefeated, Syracuse hasn't played anybody. Thus the reason you don't have them ranked too.
Jordan-Bingham a lot bigger game. Both have a lot hanging on the line.

Bonneville's Talk Was Cheap | 7:39 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Let's take Bonneville's win over Highland last year in the state tourney as what it was, the Lakers caught lightning in a bottle one time as Highland choked yet again in the playoffs. The Lakers fooled everyone with all their talk this preseason of taking the next step into "the upper echelon of Region 5" as Coach Williams put it. He thought they were top two or three in the league. Who was he trying to kid? They aren't in the same class as Sky View, Mtn. Crest, and Bountiful (the real upper echelon of Region 5). They will be playing for 4th through 7th with Roy, Box Elder, and Woods Cross in a surprising down year for the league. The Lakers have scored less than 35 points the entire season, are undersized, and offensively inept. Layton sleptwalked through their win over Bonneville and still posted a shutout. Weber is awful and the Lakers barely won, and losing to Clearfield speaks volumes. At 1-2 and with all 3 of the upper echelon of Region 5 still on the schedule, the Lakers will be lucky to go 5-5, which is mediocre and middle of the road by definition.

Let's go back to the bonneville skyview game last year who won? Oh, thats right, it was bonneville! Highland didn't choke last year in the playoffs, bonneville just dominated on both sides of the ball. Yes bonneville did lose a lot of really good athletes, including myself, but if they play to their potential they can beat any team out there including skyview. Prove them wrong boys, LAKER PRIDE!!!!

Highland doesn't choke, they made the mistake of overlooking Bonneville. When was the last time Bonneville played for a championship? That's right, think hard!
Sky View & Mountain Crest, rule region 5, Bonneville is a sidenote, at best!
Why are we even talking about the Lakers? This year, they are nobody!

Why do these Layton fans keep freaking out because Bingham is ranked above them? Yes, Bingham has lost two games. Layton has only lost one. But consider the following, losing to the number one team normally doesn't move you much in the rankings. If layton played to alta and lost they wouldn't move in the rankings either. If they were to beat us they would be propelled way up though. So both teams have lost once then bingham also lost to alta. STOP WHINING LAYTON. Bingham deserves their spot more then you. Just because you made it to the state game last year doesn't mean anything. To be quite honest with you most people considered the Bingham/Alta semifinal game the state game last year. You were just a result of the brackets not working the way they should have. BINGHAM IS THE BETTER TEAM. Not that I'm a bingham fan but the truth is they would have stomped you last year and they would this year too.

Oh, AltaFan, you make things sound so simple don't you. Saying, Stop whining? I do believe you saying Bingham deserves their spot more than you, is a pretty bold statement. You can't put an 0-2 team (until this past week) high in the rankings. Yeah, I understand losing to 2 highly ranked teams doesn't move you down too far, but then again, they are losses. What if Alta lost 4 games this year, all against top ranked teams. Do they deserve to be in the top 3, or even top 5. NO.
By the way, I can say, since there aren't too many Layton fans here, that I'm not whining. What does an Alta fan have to whine about? Seriously, wait til you lose a game. Wait til you have something to "comment" or as you say, whine about. Give me a break AltaFan.....this is a message board. Maybe you're not very familiar with it. Everyone gets a chance to voice their opinion. So, pardon me if you feel I am whining.
By the way, would love to hear you whine about some excuses if Layton were to beat Alta......in any state game.

Alta and Bingham could beat you anyday of the week. Alta's D has it going again this year. Alta's O has it going again this year. If Alta played Layton right now, it would be 17 to 0 for Alta. Layton would not have more than 150 yards on O. Alta would have 300+ on O. See ya
ALTAFAN | 10:53 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Actually I've been reading lots of these posts and there seems to be a lot coming from Layton supporters. If Alta lost four games against highly ranked teams then they obviously wouldn't deserve to be ranked in the top five. Obviously because those teams were better then them so they would take the top place. Way to go on common sense there. Bingham did lose twice, I'm not arguing on that one. Losing to the best is what everyone does though that's why that number one team is the best obviously. Because of the fact that nobody beats them it's not really fair to bump someone down in rankings for losing to that team. It just means they don't get the #1 spot. Take a look at who has been played before determining where a team belongs based on their win record. You guys are ahead of bingham now because you beat jordan for example. Rankings are based on the calliber of team that you're playing. When I say stop whining it's not to you personally it's to about fifteen people that are spouting the exact same thing.

I guess Altamont 32, over Carbon 13 isn't considered a win over a bigger school. Thanks!!!

The only thing Altamont has going for it, is the first part of its name....ALTA - mont. Drop the "mont", and maybe, just maybe, people will start showing you some respect.
Keep playing your "WAC" (pun intended) brand of football, while we concentrate on our "PAC-10" brand of football.

All you guys complaining about where your ranked in the state are just complaining over nothing! This isn't college or the AP poll.. If you win your region then win your playoff games you will be in the championship. These writers don't know everything you know about your school nor do they really care. So all you guys complaining about who is number 1 and who is number 5 after losing games just relax it doesnt change the outcome of the season.

Come on....what fun is a message board or commenting, if there's no rankings. Then, might as well not even have standings, or better yet, let's not even have any games....then no fans, then no sports. Dude....that's what sports is all about, talking about your team, your passion, your love.
Curious, why you here then, to just complain?

Just so everyone knows the seeds for the state football tournament aren't posted until shortly before the end of the season. due to posturing on opposite brackets the draw those seeds in. The Des needs to get things right.
