Mike Winder is just pandering to the xenophobic hypocrites that he wants to vote for him...Forget doing the right thing. If public perception in his area were predominantly for the taco stands, his stump speeches on the issue would be quite different. What principles! What a hero for the community! Let's all join in to kick down the people who are trying to make their lives and communities better.

It looks as though all the city has done is to promise owners of existing taco stands that they will have fewer competitors in the future.

Mr. Windor is all about himself and climbing the political ladder. He is not about what is good for the community but what will get the majority(white Mormons)to vote for him. Self promotion self promotion get him out!

Glad WVC's seeing the light.

Unlike the other commentators who live elsewhere, I actually live in West Valley and agree that these carts are out of control. Nice work, city council!

Way to go, Mr. Winder and the rest of the city council! Thank you for trying to raise the standards of West Valley City. We are not a junkyard and I appreciate the thoughtful work on the taco stands, decreasing junky signage, etc. A cleaner looking city will help in other areas like economic development and quality of life for residents.
Bigger problems | 10:45 p.m. Sept. 10, 2008
There are bigger problems that need fixing in WVC than removing the taco carts.

Even if you remove all carts, taco, sno-shacks, fruit stands or milk trucks, the city will still have an image problem - a hodge podge of fast food restaurants and crime.

Why don't community leaders spend their efforts on things that really matter? If people are willing to eat at taco carts the city council should sit back and collect tax dollars.

Thanks so much to the members of the city council who voted to put the brakes on all these taco stands. I always wondered if people wanted a taco why they couldn't just go to one of the established drive-thrus in the area. Its very politically incorrect to stand up to the illegals that run these things (especially in West Valley). This IS one step towards taking West Valley away from its sanctuary city status.
Now all we have to do is convince the health dept. to come inspect the stands on a regular basis and they won't be around long!

How pathetic and unaccepting of people, to take this matter this far. I have personally eaten at these stands and see nothing wrong with them, in fact you can't find a better deal anywhere. People should examine their real reasons for being ignorant and and "afraid" of differnet cultures.

Has anybody thought to card these Taco Vendors and see if they are in the country LEGALLY?????? Utah bends over backwards to the ILLEGALS. They want to have a taco stand....go to mexico and open one there!
I'm tired of the Illegals getting Welfare and opening businesses, and buying property when they are NOT in the country LEGALLY!

The taco stands cause public urination?

I'm not sure about the ignorance that seems to prevail in some of people's minds. These are people trying to support their families and make a living! Some suburb snobs think they make them LOOK bad? How ridiculous can you get? Obviously they don't have enough self assurance to feel good about themselves. The reason that immigrants (from ALL countries) come to America is to seek a better life. Unfortunately in Mexico and other nations there aren't nearly as many opportunities and even worse pay than there is here!
Please learn some courtesy for simple Americans trying to live American dreams. Who are we to deny them?
