Any apologies from the people that held this up for so long? How about all the tons of air pollution spewed into the air during the years that cars were idling on the freeway while the Sierra club worried about our birds? Let's move forward with projects that make sense and do them in an environmentally responsible way. Years of lawsuits are ridiculous!

You thought the morning commute was good!? Try that evening one! 33rd south to East Layton in 26 minutes, leaving right at 5 (ok, maybe that's going a little bit above the speed limit, but still...). THANK YOU LEGACY! Whoever opposed this was not a commuter and was not thinking of people like me.
A big chunk of stress has been removed from my life (for now). Thank you UDOT and Legacy

I was on the train watching both I-15 and Legacy on my way home (about 5:30 to 6:00 pm), and traffic was moving without any delays. If this continues (and today it's looking like it will), Davis County will no longer have a rush hour.

FREE GAS on Legacy? | 8:55 a.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Is UDOT pumping use of Legacy by giving free tanks of gas to everyone who uses it?
No. It isn't necessary, is it?
I didn't think so.
But, UTA is doing something like that to make FrontRunner look successful. For UTA it is necessary and it works. They did it with TRAX, too.
Over 100,000 people have access to free or highly discounted ride passes to Ride FrontRunner as often as they like and for whatever reason they like.
The premium pass that gives all this access normally costs over $1900 a year...but it's FREE.
FrontRunner FreeLoaders, they are called.
These folks also pay none--zip, nada, zilch-- of the fuel surcharge that UTA is sticking to the regular bus and low income transit riders at full cost.
Also, the historic climb of gas price to $4/gallon helped pump FrontRunner "success".
There is another UTA FrontRuner Ridership scam at work, and it is the Family Pass. For $14.50, a family of 8 rides round trip. This hides what an empty diesel-sucking waste these trains are in the evenings and on Saturday.
This is another reason FrontRunner ridership has grown to 8,500 one-way riders a day. Not Significant!
FREE isn't FAIR!

This is all great news. The true test though will be the Friday evening commute, or better yet the next Friday before a federal holiday weekend commute. Then we'll see the real impact of Legacy.

And what exactly is your point with this silly rant? That people who have workplaces willing to subsidize a portion or all of a monthly pass shouldn't take advantage of it? That's crazy. And students, who have less income than many out there, should have to pay top dollar?
If you simply don't want to use FrontRunner and believe it's a bad idea, you are entitled to your opinion. But making it sound like UTA is running a scam to make it look 'successful'? C'mon. Truth is, people are riding the trains and they are helping take traffic off the roads. Granted, Legacy will have a bigger impact because people don't have to leave their cars to use it. But eventually FrontRunner and expanded TRAX lines will make their mark as well.

With the success of LEGACY......Why has it been stopped at Lagoon? Take it all the way to OGDEN!!!!
Re: Reminder | 12:33 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Since the Highway was funded by an increase in the gas tax, it's fair for everyone. If Davis County residents are driving more, they're buying more gas and therefore contributing more tax dollars to be used to fund construction. If you drive much less or not at all, then you shouldn't be so hot and bothered that "your" tax dollars are subsidizing it since a much smaller dollar amount is actually coming from you. 100% of all roads should be built and/or improved with gas tax dollars, that's the best way to ensure that those that use them the most are contributing the most.
To Reminder | 12:56 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Reminder reminds me of all of the people who oppose legacy and any other freeway project. They always ask, "Why am I paying for a freeway that I'm not going to use?"
The funny thing about these people is that they usually live very near I-15, I-215, or I-80. They are satisfied that they have their freeway that WE all pay for, but when other people want a freeway to access their area these wackos throw a fit! I don't live in Davis County and I probably won't use Legacy very much, but I know people that do and I am glad that they have an alternative route to the rediculous bottleneck that is I-15 in Davis County. At least they Legacy a little better than the useless road that is Bangerter Highway!

"Why?" asked why the Legacy Parkway stops at Lagoon. My asumption is that since Lagoon is where the US-89 expressway starts, there is less need for an additional highway north of Lagoon than there was for an additional highway south of Lagoon.
Just Wait.... | 1:20 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
With the smoother comute more people will build and live north.... then both freeways will be clogged.
This shouldn't take to long.
It happens EVERY WHERE I've lived when new freeways were built.
Hope not, but that seems to be the trend.

Why? | 1:37 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Ogden? Who cares about Ogden. Stop at Farmington is just fine.
Hey "To Reminder" | 1:59 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Yeah, you're right, since you don't use Bangerter Highway, it's totally useless. Well reasoned!
To: Zadruga Guy | 6:09 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
You hit the nail on the head. You could say that US-89 north of Farmington serves the same purpose as the Legacy Highway, in a way. It is an alternate (and for some people, faster) route to Ogden, beyond I-15. This is why there are also fewer freeway lanes north of that interchange. That number is also currently being increased, in case "Why?" hasn't noticed. The commute through Southern Davis County has been a bear for some time now, due to the fact that I-15's 4 lanes in each direction were the only truly viable option. Now, with the addition of the Legacy Parkway, there are more options and less congestion...For now.
