It seems too me like when you have that much surplus cash lying around it would give the lawmakers more opportunity too fatten their own wallets.But then, i'm not a politician.

Yet we spend less per a student than any other state. If the state is flush with cash, why did the Legislature and the Governor only pass a 3% increase in education spending that doesn't keep pace with growth? What is the money being saved for?

Ditto!!!!!!! This is tax payers money. Return the money to taxpayers. Lower our taxes. This is suppose to be the most conservative state but yet we are among the highest taxed. Of course it doesn't help when the only more liberal republican govenor than Huntsman is Arnold.

Why are we paying state taxes if they have a surplus? I assume we can be tax free for the next few years. Correct?

This state either taxes or places a fee on anything that moves or does not move. I say lets tax the big non profits (churches, healthcare, credit unions) so the rest of us can have some fee and tax relief. I was going to upgrade my car but I did not feel like paying both a sizeable sales tax and also a property tax. On the other hand, houses are undertaxed thus education gets shorted big time.

We need a property tax revolt in Utah. There is obviously excess taxes being collected and the only question is priority. Small amounts till next budget year is all that should be carried forward. Way too much collected and allocated.

Why can't we reduce class sizes in the schools?

The Republicans who have the majority rule along with Ecclesiastical leaders need the funds to enscript young men and women for ther overseas dirty wars.And to pay the pockets of those poor souls, whose houses are not quite high enough on the Wasach Front to look down on the poor.

We can't even get enough teachers to fill our schools due to the poor pay and poor working conditions (huge class sizes).

Snow Springs elementary school in Lehi has 1400 kids. Nine first grade classes.
And yet we sit on funds that should building schools and paying teachers.

That is disgracefull to have that amount of leftover revenue, and still continue to leave our prisons understaffed due to extremely low pay, which in turn leaves the public at risk without enough officers to control inmates in or out of the prisons. Not to mention the finacial struggle the officers families go thru, as well as the worry of the risk associated with the job. We should be asshamed of the way we compensate our law enforcement as well as our soldiers. Legislature stop filling your pockets and take care of the men and women who protect us each day from the violent people in our communities
