Tragedy
Ex-Miltary | 11:42 a.m. Sept. 20, 2008
It's a shame that people are afraid to stand up against what they know is wrong. If he wasn't involved in the actual murder, he should have reported the event so someone higher up his chain of command, but that's not always easy. This "war" (I prefer to call it an "occupation of Iraq") is making young men and women do things they may never have thought possible because of the stress levels they are subjected to. Unfortunately, many good people are being punished for actions they would never do in the civilian community. I wish him the best of luck, he'll need it with a felony, prison time and a dishonorable discharge following him for the rest of his life.

I first want to thank Ms. Ramos for her sacrifice and her son for being willing to serve this country. What he did was very wrong. This is a great example of a sin of omission rather than a sin of commission. He should have been a man, stood with honor and not allowed a murder to happen. I do feel he is getting off with a lenient sentance, however, he is not getting off free at all.True,he still has his life and hopefully will keep it, but it won't be easy after his release with a criminal record and a dishonorable discharge. I wish them both peace and hope the repentance/forgiveness process takes place.

Until you walk in a soldiers shoes, fight his fight, and live his fears and hopes, you will never know. I pray for him and his family. I hope they find peace. This is truly a tragedy of errors. The sentence given him by the military is nothing compared to the sentence he will give himself as he lives the remainder of his life trying to right the wrong that resulted in the death of those 4 men. God Bless Him, his family and this wonderful country. I hope that when he returns home, he is not judged by his mistakes, but by his answer to the call of duty to protect our homeland. And the understanding that war brings with it casualties - in all shapes and sizes. Those causalties have colors and flavors all their own. I pray that this country and our communities don't make the remainder of his life another causalty of this war.

good values, truth, and blah blah blaha?
Did you remember to teach him about "do no kill people, because... are people"???
(it's not the same casualties in combat than to kill prisoners, that is only murder).

As a 22-year AF retiree, I ditto the coments above by "John and Julie" - casualties come in all shapes and sizes, each with its own color and flavor. That makes it impossible for any of us to judge exactly. We can only make flawed judgments, and so we shouldn't make any.

I worked with Ramos and the other men accused in this case. I wasn't privy to the case until I heard about an investigation. What I can tell you is that these are good men who did the best they could to keep their men alive. They may have did a monstrous act, but they are by no means monsters. They are good men who made a mistake that they'll pay for forever. I know when I look back at my time in Alpha Company that I'll look at these men with honor for their sacrifices and sadness at the results of their service.

You guys should not be the first to judge!!!! You don't know the whole story all you know is what the news has told you!!! No one is perfect, I do agree what he did was wrong but he is no monster!!! I now him personally. I really hope that people do not judge him at all until you know the story stop the judgement!!!
