We did it!!! This was the game of the year, the Region 1 Championship game in reality. Viewmont is 3-0, but all their wins are against the weakest region teams.

Northridge absolutely dominated in the 1st qtr, up 14-0, driving & looking like they'd go up 21-0 & put the lights out early on Layton's home...in the 1st qtr! That was the last time NRidge would score. Layton was probably negative yardage in the 1st qtr, but something in the air changed, as Layton's D absolutely dominated the NRidge, a team that only a CA team has held to <35 pts. Karl Williams (LaVaughn Jackson still out) was back in as RB at the start of the 2nd qtr, and he lit up the NRidge D, piling over top of defenders like the man-child he is. Pinched nerve and all, he brought his team back. Not fully recovered from his pinched nerve, he still dominiated. Hats off to you Karl.

Should win rest of region games and possibly be 2nd straight year they'll go undefeated in Region 1. Will be interesting to see how the brackets roll out. Keeping an eye out on Alta & Bingham.

WAY TO GO LANCERS! I Knew all along we could beat the knights...it just took a hard battle! We love you guys!
Alta Alum | 9:01 a.m. Sept. 27, 2008
If you win out in Region 1, you'll see Bingham in the semi's. That is if you make it that far! Alta and Bingham are in different brackets this year, and will probably meet in the finals

Two great teams, a great game. I'm happy for the Lancers and Coach Batchelor. They have not had an easy year. Congrats, guys!

Good call or bad call any thoughts:
nine seconds left pass play,
44 yard kick to tie in OT

I'm a former Lancer and I have to admit that Layton didn't necesarily win the game rather than Northridge losing it. All the coach had to do was kick the ball...twice! Layton was dominated, except for the 2nd quarter, and should have lost. I give them credit for never giving up and coming out on top. Well done Lancers!
kick the FG | 10:44 a.m. Sept. 27, 2008
please kick the fg
Info man | 10:51 a.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Sounds like Northridge blew it by not kicking a chip shot, basically another p.a.t.
Why???

play calling decided the outcome of this win. layton lucks out again and wins a game they didn't deserve. thanks for throwing layton the region title n ridge.
To "stupid" | 12:00 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
How can you say Layton didn't deserve it? They didn't give up. Play calling always plays a factor but the kids have to make it work and Layton did. Northridge probably should have went for the FG, that's on the coach, that aside, the Knights could have still made it happen but Layton stopped them. Granted it looked to be a Northridge win but come on, Layton pulled through. They are fighters and they fought, which to me equals a deserved win.

good job layton. we're still cheering for you
Outplayed | 12:05 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Layton got outplayed and if you were at the game it was obvious they did. Nridge had numerous chances to win the game but did not take them. However you have to give credit where credit is due, and Layton took their chances to win. The Nridge defense played their best game of the year holding Layton to around 150 total yards. Both of Layton's scoring drives were less than 50 yards. Too bad that the game had to end like it did i was rooting for the Ridge.
to Outplayed, fr True Blue | 12:42 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I WAS at the game. Both of Layton's drives were "OVER" 50 YARDS. You are mistaken. ONe was around 70 yards and another about 60. Check your stats. I was sitting on the Layton 30 yard line & I know where the drive started. Both started due to NRidge punts. Maybe you were on the ground level and couldn't tell. I was on the top row and could see everything.

Layton clearly outplayed NRidge in the 2nd qtr, when Williams was put in at RB. The team needed him and he responded, playing hurt as he is. The 2nd half was scoreless. A great defensive battle. The Layton D stepped up again.....GO REDZONE D IS THE BOMB!!!

Region 1 & beyond. Beware. Williams and Jackson are healing. When healthy, Layton's offense will be in full force. The force is with Layton.

Peni and Karl, job well done. Both of these young men fought through injury and played their butts off in this rivalry game. You made your teams, school and parents very proud...Good luck Peni and NRidge on the rest of your season. I'm glad this game is over so I can start routing for you again.
Light Blue | 12:51 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I thought the play call not to kick it was a good call. they had nine seconds clearly enough time to go for the easier score or get the ball centered for the chip shot. It was great D by Layton to force Northridge to reverse direction and chew up the rest of the clock. Did we forget that it was a gift for Northridge in the first place to have the ball where they did w/ a chance to win. Layton was the better team through three quarters and OT Layton D bend but don't break.

I can't wait to play Bingham if we get that far that will be an awesome chance to hang with the big guys...!!!
N-Ridge | 12:54 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Class acts by most players. hard fought game like we knew it was gonna be and dumb calls had the down fall for northridges team at the very end. still think N-Ridge should have one ha
Light Blue | 1:00 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I wanted to commment on the play calls too. it looked like the tailback sweeps and the pitch outs we're play calls not for a 240 lb fullback and alot of those plays were stopped for losses or minimal gains it exites me to see what will happen when Jackson returns and can hit the outside with 4.4 speed and ability to cut back on a dime. great job #24 carrying that backfield
Davis Fan | 1:17 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Sounds like Northridge is being a bunch of sore losers! The team who deserved to win won. There are always a few bad calls BOTH WAYS. But regardless, your team didn't get it done in the end and Layton did. Suck it up! Congratulations Layton!
outplayed | 1:18 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Which game were you at? both teams had 2 great sustained drives, both teams had trouble converting third downs, both teams played great Dfence, both teams made a key huge mistake each with less than 2 minutes left. and in the end Layton showed up to OT and Northridge had -2 yards. and went home w/ an L
Light Blue | 1:32 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
As a Layton Fan it makes me exited to see how similar these teams are and what a great chance to take on SLC and South schools with these two great teams (Since Davis refused to live up to there end of the deal.) It would be great to finish this game on turf with a state title on the line. From here on out I am a Layton City fan GO KNIGHTS!!!!!GO LANCERS!!! and NRK we noticed this is your region next year w/ all those Jr's

Having seen the Bingham vs WJ game on Thursday night, I thought I would venture up north to se this game. The Game was great but as an outside fan I just don't think the likes of Layton Or Northrigde can compete with Bingham or Alta. You may prove me wrong come November but I see A much more Physical game being played by the Miners and the Hawks. I think the O and D lines of the Jordan District schools will dominate our brothers to the north. The teams at Bingham anf Alta Just look bigger and faster. Watching the game last night I just felt like it was being played at a slower level. However, I cannot fault the effort of both the Lancers and the Knights. They seem,ed to leave it all out on the field.

It should be a great Satae Tournament! Good Luck to all teams involved!

One more thing... MMA you are probably right about the Salt Lake Valley teams being bigger, better, and faster, but down there its been open enrollment for year, we finally got it up here this year, in a couple years we'll be as big as you, and there will be more competition from the Davis Valley, so you'll see whats up in a few years!
Layton secondary | 3:20 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
How about that Layton secondary playing agianst one of the most powerful reciving cores they will probably see all year and the biggest play they gave up was about a 15 yard out.
Lancer Blue | 3:21 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
We ain't talking state yet, bro. Play the season one game at a time. So you worry about your district, and we'll worry about ours.
Columbia Blue | 3:40 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Another great win for Davis County's best team. FYI: Layton High's colors are Navy Blue and Columbia Blue. Columbia blue is not sky blue, or light blue. It is Columbia blue. These colors are way better than any other high school's colors, especially cardinal and silver. And better than brown and yellow, green, burgundy, etc.
Dark Knight | 4:22 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Hey Davis fan, Weber got it done...the best team won..
Hey True Blue | 4:24 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Guess what i WAS at the game too. And Layton scored on a thirty five yard drive after Northridge kicked out of their own endzone. Unless the Nridge punter can kick it 70 yards then theirs no way their scoring drive was more than sixty yards.
To: Davis Fan | 4:26 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
You probably shouldn't say much your team lost to Weber. Yes.. Weber. Sure Northridge lost but all everyone is saying is that they had their chances to win and didn't take them.
True Blue | 4:59 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I stand corrected. I do remember the great field position for one of the drives. The other was near 70 or so yards.

To MMA, Have you forgotten how powerful this offense is? How many games have you seen? YOu have to remember, our #1 & #2 RBs were missing vs. Davis, and Williams pulled us out a few brave plays this time. Cottonwood is only team to score more than 14 pts against this D. That's JOrdan, NOrthridge and DAvis, all 14 & below. That's an accomplishment!
True Blue Layton fan | 5:02 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I shouldn't have criticized NRidge's coach, because I guess the moderator is really moderating. I simply was asking why he made the calls to not go for 2 game winning FGs and that they were very questionable calls. Very very weird calls.
Question | 7:09 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
So I read Applegate in another article and thought he was the coach. After all Coach Applegate was the coach when I was there. (Just dated myself) Is Applegate the player or the coach? Or both? I live in another state and have not an idea as to what has happened over the years.
True Blue Layton Fan | 7:25 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Coach Applegate is the Offensive Coordinator, been there 20+ yrs. His son Camren Applegate, senior, is the starting QB for Layton.

Next up, Layton visits Clearfield. The Falcons have had a rough year. Layton about ready to make it a lot more rough. Hopefully, the Lancers can put it away early, as they've got a problem warming up.

Some of the players know the Haka dance. Maybe they ought to all do it before the game!
Layton Player | 8:36 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
We tried to practice the Haka but honestly we looked really dumb trying it out
Wyo Reader | 8:50 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
WAY TO GO LANCERS! We Miss Layton!!!
Why??? | 9:12 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
If your going to try the Haka you need some poly's..Bingham does it before each game but they have a lot of poly's

It seems to me that Layton keeps getting Lucku in these games! Barely squeeking them out, Good Job winning but i cant figure out why you still think your team can compete with Bingham and Alta. Im glad someone watched both games and posted what they saw.
SLC | 11:03 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Everyone knows who the teams to beat are Alta, Bingham, Pleasant Grove Skyline, Layton is only playing up to their compition but we'll take what we're given.
Anonymous | 11:26 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
great job Layton good luck against that high powered offence of clearfield
True Blue Layton fan | 11:28 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Any team would be hurting, and probably losing games, taking their top 2 RBs out of the game. Sure, we got Williams back, but he's still not 100%. Jackson & Williams will be a threat to deal with in state. Layton will hopefully get into cruise control the next 4 weeks. Stay healthy boys!
True Blue Layton fan | 11:39 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Layton has a favoring schedule the last 4 games:
@ Clearfield
SYRACUSE
@ Viewmont
WEBER

Clearfield & Weber are gimmees. Syracuse will buckle at Lancer stadium & Viewmont will be the toughest game, and possibly the game that will determine REgion 1 champ.

Viewmont's remaining schedule, 'NOT' favoring them:
DAVIS
@ Weber
LAYTON
@ Northridge

Holding my breath that everybody stays healthy & they're not upset, Layton takes the crown into state with a #1 seed.
True Blue Layton fan | 11:40 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Oh, and Northridge? If they don't get their offense back on track, they'll struggle with 2 of the toughest defenses in the state, Syracuse & Davis....and they're playing both of them on the road. So, I can see NRidge losing 1 of their final 4. Still should get the #2 seed.

@ Syracuse
CLEARFIELD
@ Davis
VIEWMONT
True Blue Layton Fan | 11:54 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Yessiree! Being a U fan, I wasn't impressed with the performance of the newest U of U recruit. Since he was quoted as saying, "Layton's not all it's cracked up to be", I think he'll now be reconsidering that comment he made to the media.

I was surprised that NRidge played so conservatively. All the big plays were taken away within the 1st 5 yards of the plays. Had NRidge players broken a tackle or 2, they may have found their way thru. Two key words here: "may have".

I give all the credit to the Layton D for stopping him & the entire powerful Northridge offense.
