Wow. AFter reviewing every region, I agree with all but one ranking. I'd put Pine View ahead of Mtn Crest. Otherwise, it's getting a bit easier, now that the good teams are creating some distance between themselves and the mediocre teams.
I agree | 1:40 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
I agree with True Blue Layton Fan. Pine View shouldn't drop in the rankings for beating Hurricane, an undefeated, highly ranked, excellent 3A team, whose student body size is pretty close to Pine View's. I would put Pine View ahead of Sky View and Mountain Crest.
DHS DARTS | 2:11 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
I would have to agree exactly with the top 5 in 5A.

PV barely beats a 3A!!!! team. they deserve to be a below sky view and mountain crest.

Pine View should have dropped a notch. True, they beat a very good (previously #3 ranked) Hurricane squad. However, they struggled (2 OT) and were playing on their own homefield (homecoming). Playing at home is an advantage and being the larger school indicates more depth.
For the same reason, I think Hurricane should have dropped a notch (they did) for playing a highly ranked 4A school.
It is true Pine View's enrollment has dropped, but let's not kid ourselves...the athletes generally stay at the school with the winning program. Do you really think Desert Hills was able to suck the talent out of Pine View? Doubtful.

I can promise you that neither Alta, Layton, or Bingham wants a piece of PG. This team is on a roll!

I dont know if I would be posting after what happened last week. If you lose next week you can almost kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Here we go again with PV whining about things. You guys never stop do you.
PV | 10:08 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
PV is not the team they have been in the past. However, they will probably be the 1st seed in Region 9. The first two games of the tournament would be at PV. It is not impossible, but it could prove difficult for a team to take a 5 to 8 hour bus ride from Cache or from the Wasatch Front to Southern Utah and leave with a win.
Wouldn't it be fun to have | 10:18 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
PG play Layton for the 5A championship
and Cottonwood play Timpview for the 4A
Then would people recognize the winner of the 4A game as the best team in the state???

Congrats on being 3rd in 3A Delta. I have a lot of respect for your program...that said, there is no way you are better than Hurricane. They barely lost to Pine View, and frankly, should have won. Delta is undefeated by playing the Gunnison 4th ward, the Academy of Christian Mercy, and Tuacahn. Hurricane has a much better shot at getting to Salt Lake than Delta. Fortunately, unlike the NCAA, we get to watch it all play out!
Dreaming!!! | 11:06 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Keep Dreaming, lets get real here Everyone knows that it is going to be a Alta Bingham Championship. Just like the semi final game was the real championship game last year.
Oh and PG you played Bingham 2 years ago and they killed you, you dont have the athletes. You guys need to get used to the SLC teams winning it its not going to change for a while. Bingham starts like 5 sophmores, that class there is amazing! If they dont win it this year they will the next 2 for sure!

RE: Disagree
why should Hurricane have dropped a notch? i totally disagree with you... they stayed in a game with a higher ranked 4A team for double overtime... i think they should have at least stayed the same as they were... they had some amazing plays and showed a lot of talent...
RE: Wouldn't it be fun to have
why would that prove that the 4A team was better in any way??? i guess i am just not seeing your reasoning behind this...
But we dont have to worry about that anyways cause there is NO way PG will play Layton for the Championship... Cause regardless of what the schedule says... whenever Bingham and Alta Play during the playoffs that will always be known as the "REAL" State Championship

My rankings after week 6:
5A
1. Alta- clearly proved the Skyline's domination is over... for now.
2. Layton- seems to know how to win when it matters the most.
3. Bingham- Alta vs. Bingham state championship looking like a real possibility.
4. Pleasant Grove- Silent darkhorse of 5A continues to roll.
5. Northridge- another Region 1 team bites the dust against Layton.
6. Jordan- Diggers have it east for two weeks, then get Skyline and Alta.
7. Viewmont- anymore close games to teams like Fremont will drop the Vikings.
8. Syracuse- Titans playing very well in only their second season.
9. Riverton- Silverwolves back in my top 10 after beating Copper Hills.
10. Skyline- should be embarrased after game against Alta.

1. Timpview- Thunderbirds should break states longest winning streak next week.
2. Cottonwood- Colts are tearing through helpless region 6
3. Sky View- Bobcats put up 34 points without starting quarterback.
4. Pine View- needed overtime to knock off tought 3A Hurricane.
5. Mountain Crest- Mustangs proved that they are no push over with win against a tough Bountiful team.
6. East- showdown with Cottonwood still awaits the Leopards
7. Highland- Rams could still take region 6 with a huge upset over Cottonwood next week.
8. Dixie- game against Pine View in October will show us just how good the Flyers are.
9. Bountiful- Defense was almost non existent against Mtn. Crest on Friday.
10. Springville- will stay in the top 10 until Timpview destroys them.

Hurricane would NOT beat Mtn. Crest or Sky View. Cottonwood would beat them by 30. Hurricane may be good, but not that good. They won't even be able to beat Logan.

I agree that Hurricane is a very good team but... there is no way they could ever beat sky view or mnt. crest... what the "boys down south" in region 9 need to realize is that Southern Utah football is nothing compared to the programs they have up north... Yeah hurricane might be able to stay in the game with pine view but... there is a huge difference between pine view and Sky View, Mnt. Crest Hurricane is nothing compared to them

If you are going to post at least know what you are talking about. First of all Bingham WON'T have a challenge against Kearns and second of all, the game is on FRIDAY not Thursday!! Get a clue!
Re: To Honestly | 1:19 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
You might want to get a clue they moved the game to Thursday because of General Conference and HomeComing the same weekend so continue to call out people on things you know nothing about.

I love how the season isn't even near done, and Cottonwood is already setting itself up, for the state championship game vs. Timpview.
Mark my words, Cottonwood doesn't make it through the season undefeated! Either Highland or East will dismantle Cottonwood's hopes!

"Honestly", I think you're right. Kearns will be a challenge for Bingham. Not one that the Miners can't overcome with a strong second half, but a challenge nonetheless. You're also right about the day of the game, Thursday.
"I'm just a girl", if you asked whether Kearns had only beaten Hunter, the answer is "no". Kearns also beat: Brighton, Cyprus and Lehi.

Hurricane fans want their kids to be recognized as legit and move up, because they took Pine View into overtime. At the same time, however, they want everyone to understand that Pine View is not that good and should drop...because Hurricane took Pine View into overtime?
Seems to me the only way Hurricane gets any credit at all for losing a game is for losing to a high quality opponent, and the only way Pine View drops by winning is by narrowly beating a low quality team.
This is kinda like wanting to stay in Region Nine with the St. George schools, but not having the games count. Nice when you can have it both ways.

Enjoy this year PV-Dixie | 3:18 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Both PV and Dixie were not hurt by Desert Hills this year because the seniors were allowed to stay at Dixie and PV.PV is loaded with seniors this year but there will be a dramatic drop off next year for sure.So if PV or Dixie is going to go anywhere in 4A this is the year,No chance going forward.Sad but true, they just can't compete with the deeper programs up north.
to: Dreaming!!! | 3:49 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
why does it matter what happened in the past? New year, new team, anything can happen...
Re: Enjoy | 4:21 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
You're basically correct. Next year will be a challenge, and your comment points up the inexplicable mess and injustice the UHSAA caused by moving PV and Dixie to 4A knowing full well that Desert Hills would take those schools down to or below the threshold for 3A. There is absolutely no way a school with 1000 or fewer students and a closed enrollment can compete with Timpview and Cottonwood.
What a shame that the animosity between Hurricane and the St. George schools and the unwillingness of Snow Canyon to let students be moved to Desert Hills brought this about. A 3A Region Nine is the only rational outcome here. Let's hope that better minds prevail.

ok so Kearns has won 4 games just like bingham but... look who they have been playing... Hunter is, unfortunately, the only team on that list that is even worth mentioning... i am not saying that kearns cant upset on thursday night but... I really cant see that happening with Bingham... they have already had 2 very upsetting losses... they cant let that happen again...

Just a note. All you people saying that Salt Lake is where it's at, you're funny. Utah County will dominate in 4A as usual and PG and Lone Peak will be a challenge come playoffs. Bingham, Alta, Layton, and whoever else there is, don't talk. C_Wood runs the North. Good luck to you guys Colts. See you soon

Pleasant Grove is a whole new improved powerhorse. same with a lot of other teams like Layton and Riverton. just because a team lost 2 another team 2 years ago dosnt mean that its going to happen again. wow u need to check yourself and see what is going to happen this high school football year.

Re: "You're basically correct." 3A is never gonna happen for all the region 9 schools again. PV is at 998 this year (two shy of the 1000 to reach 4A level) and PV is only going to get bigger. Dixie & SC are both over the required 1000 student mark (SC is well over) and the two will be even bigger next year. Of course Hurricane will grow too (they are at 855) but I don't see there numbers reaching 1000 for a few years. Desert Hills is in the same boat as Hurricane.
Maybe some years down the road they can all be 4A but then what about the Cedar schools because they probably won't be at the 4A level for a long time.
I find it interesting that PV is already complaining about being a small 4A school when Hurricane (until recently) and the Cedar schools have always been way smaller than the St. George schools and we've always been told to just shut-up and play. Now PV needs to take the same advice. They are where they belong. They are only going to get bigger. No going back to 3A.

It is everyone on these Boards setting up the Championship against TV and CW. CW will not listen to the Hype or BS on these Boards. They will Beat Highland and then East over the next 2 weeks. You can mark my words on that.
If Highland and east can put 40 plus on CW then maybe they come away with an upset, don't see that happening. CW Beat a very Good Layton team at Layton and know how to win tough games when they are close.
Highland and East are not even in the same class as Layton or even Pineview. Both those teams would beat them easily. CW 42 Highland 14.
CW 45 East 10. MARK MY WORDS!!!!!!!!!

Bingham is looking tough again. Alta is the best team in 5A. Look out for Pleasant Grove and Layton. Northridge is a good possibility to upset any of the top teams. If Jordan can find any consistant play from its offence they too could be a contender.
In 4A are the two best teams in the State of Utah, maybe in the west. Timpview is AWSOME baby and Cottonwood is not far behind! Look for T-view to take it all again.
Good luck to all the teams. I just wish college had a playoff as well.

Juan Diego | 6:08 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Juan Diego is moving up the charts but just like MOST other 3A teams not getting recognized! They could be TOP 10! Their "D" is BEST in the State and the games have been OVER before the Half! Most teams have NOT even had positive yardage or even a first down until JD starts putting in their subs. They have outscored opponents 230-26 and the 26 was scored on the JV subs. Offensive points could be worse if they wanted but coaches call off the dogs usually late in the 2nd Q. WISH JD could play BETTER teams than the 4 they have left to WIN Region 8 Title, AGAIN! Judge was last years 2nd Place 3A team! Dominated 2- 4A schools (even though they are not very good, still bigger) I WISH JD could move to 4A to get more challenging games that will help make the players better in the long run even if they lose. Now do not get me wrong JD cant beat TV or Colts, but could give others a good game if not possibly win. A Challenge would be good though! Feel sorry for Emery, N. Sanpete, Carbon & Rabbits! GO JD!

The Answer | 7:04 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
The toughest non-region schedule was played by Fremont. The Silver Wolves are easily the best 0-6 team in the state, maybe in the country.

Re: To Get A Clue CWood
Mark my words, you WILL lose to Highland! You basically have the same personnel you had last year. What makes you think the outcome is going to be any different?
In fact, you probably had a better defense last year, and sure, your offense, may be better this year, but, any coach, who knows anything about football, will tell you, that it is defense that wins football games.
Highland, will score, enough points on your "suspect" defense, to win the game, and your so-called "high powered" offense will be tested to breaking point. Romero will be either rushed or sacked, throughout this game, your running game will be bottled up, and in the end, the Rams will be the ones left standing.
Sorry to break it to you, but your "dream" season will come to an end, this friday, at Highland.
Oh and by the way, we aren't Layton or Pineview, we're Highland.

NO Bright One, Highland will get Spanked and they are not the same team as last year. They were actually a good team last year that Got Lucky to win when down 14-3. CW is not the team that has lost 2 games, we did not Lose to an average East team, we did not Lose to Mountain Crest. CW is a lot different than last year, Romero has thrown 19 TD's to 1 Int. Isi can do it all to. Our Receivers are the Best they have ever had and Highland will not be able to match their speed. You are dreaming if you think this is going to end good for Highland this Friday Night. You are Right, you are not Layton or Pineview, they are actually good teams.
You got Lucky when you beat Skyline, and that receiver is now gone who won that Game for you. Good Luck as you will need it come friday night.
Mark my words again, CW will win and win by more than 20. Highlands defense is not near what Layton has and we put 40 on them.
