With many of the teams the UTES have played so far not doing much this season, the OSU game now takes on a bit more meanging (as far as national attention goes) with OSU's win over USC. Our UTES better be ready for this one as I don't think they will be able to continue the mistakes they have been making all year long and come away with a win. They have really been playing with fire and so far haven't been burned. That can't continue, so hopefully it stops with the UTES cleaning up their game vs the alternative. LETS GO UTES!!!

Games at the village(Indian city)has been a happy hunting ground (lots of kills / victories) for the "people of the mountains"(Utes)...
Big Daddy sayz...
OSU 09
UTAH 32
Def backs - dispensers’ of pain, Def Line - The Great Wall of Utah. Off Line - notoriously Tuff...Johnson makes the right choice and tucks and runs more / offense makes it happen all four quarters...Special Teams - makes play(s) of the day. Louie pads his record....GO UTES

I'm giving this one to the Utes. Show 'em what happens she teams from 'big conferences' come up the hill. Kyle's Utes usually get up for the big games.

Turnovers ! Turnovers !
If Steve Smith holds onto the ball that is thrown to an Oregon end and Robert Johnson does his high flying grabs, things will be looking good,
I think with a couple interceptions and " Louie's Louie's " toe, ( pinning them back ) winning this game is a possibility. Play all 60 minutes flat out ! Go Utah !

The utes are becoming notorious for preparing well for big games. A long streak of continuous bowl game victories, Michigan this year (in the big house) and now O State. The Beavers are a good team, but a couple things will be going against them.
First is the homefield advantage. The altitude usually plays a difference, especially in kicking games, as Sakoda is accustomed to it, he can place punts inside the opponent's 10 yd line, while the beavers will struggle to do so, and the same for field goals, Sakoda knows the limits, but O State will probably not try a 50 yarder, even though it's a lot easier at RES's altitude.
Second, is the matchup of the Beaver offense and the Ute Defense. The Utes have been very stingy defenders against the run, so don't expect O State to have the kind of run game they did against USC.
Overall, the utes will probably pull this out (my guess is a 31 - 24 final score), but if the Utes make more than 2 turnovers, they won't recover.
Good luck and...

Michigan did to #9 Wisconsin what they couldn't do against Utah and Michigan remains a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten. That said, I agree that Oregon State, coming off a win over USC, does add significantly to the schedule.
Go Utes.

Good luck Utes! I'm looking for the Ute's smaller, quicker and more athletic d-line to match up well with their water bug of a running back. If the o-line can keep Johnson on his feet its the Utes by 17.
And Whit - "lack of resistency"? How about you speak english and let our guy make up the new words :)

"With many of the teams the UTES have played so far not doing much this season,"......Hello? Are you watching college football? Utah beat Michigan in the big house, Michigan just beat then #9 Wisconsin. Utah beat UNLV at home. UNLV beat then #15 ASU at Tempe and Iowa State at home. If the Utes beat OSU on Thursday they will definately have more quality wins over opponents than the TDS.
RedFred | 8:18 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Your weak win against Weber State didn't move you up as many slots in the polls as idle BYU got. That's bad. The Utes had better play better against OSU or it's another disappointing year. Can't go losing to a 2-2 Pac-10 team when the rest of the MWC has beaten up on that conference! Not if you think you're good enough to go to a BCS game this year.
Jason BYU Fan | 8:21 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
I sincerely want the Utes to go out and do some damage to the Beavers. The Utes are a great team and I hope they and my Cougars are both undefeated come their match up in November. I will be cheering loud and long for the Utes to have a great games this week and the rest of the season.

Kill 'em Utah!
Blowout? | 8:42 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Anyone who predicts this will be a blowout is idiotic and doesn't think anything through. If OSU can figure out how to pick apart an awesome USC team, they can surely do that even better against an average utah team. When you just beat the #1 team in the nation, you will be on a high. When you leave a game feeling awful after playing a lower division team, who do you think has the edge in this game? Certainly not Utah, and I don't care if they are at home.
This will be a close game. This heartbreaking loss will be tough, especially as they prepare to go to Wyoming who will be ready to take it to Utah for some sweet revenge.

Utes are always ready for the big game and I expect this will be a defensive struggle from the get-go. Luckily, we have the x-factor of the game in Sakoda. I believe his expertise in punting and kicking will ultimately lead the Utes to a close vistory. GO UTES!!

schedules... | 9:28 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
This is to anyone (byu fans)that are knocking on utah's schedule so far. The combined record for the three division 1 teams that byu has defeated, TWO BEING PLAYED AT HOME, might I add is... 3 and 11. Solid numbers and they sure speak for themselves. Heck, byu isn't going to see someone with a potential winning record until TCU in a few weeks! I am not counting the division 2 win, same as utah, I realize. Arguing about schedules so far would not be the smartest. I guess for either team even though michigan, unlv and air force are at least winning some games.
Kalamazoo Cougar | 9:29 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
This game is dripping with sooooo much potential for Utah!! Now that OSU has embarrased Trojans, oh just imagine if Utah should take the beavers to the wood shed!! What would that say for the MWC against the PAC-10 this year!!
Ute fans, you should be salivating for this one. You'll have to do better than the Weber game, but after correctly predicting a Ute win earlier this year a few miles away in Ann Arbor, I don't doubt at all Utah can win in convincing fashion.
I can almost see that if Utah and BYU should meet at the end of the season undefeated, both could be ranked high enough that it won't matter who wins or loses. A loss to either may not affect either team enough to matter. Both could very well end up in the BCS. I still hope the Cougs end up on top!
So, Utah, take no prisoners on Thursday!! Make the conference proud!! Beaver stew is on the menu at RES!

Hey Dutchman sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Wisconsin and ASU were both very overrated. That's why Michigan and UNLV were able to beat them. There is no way Wisconsin deserved their lofty #9 ranking since they started by playing a couple of patsies and then struggled to beat Fresno St 13-10.
And to Blowout, yes Wyoming will certainly WANT to take it to utah for some sweet revenge BUT they just aren't any good this year so they won't be able to. I'd be very surprised if that ends up a close game.
Ore St will come to play this week. I agree with Blowout that they are on a high while utah is on a "low" after getting shafted by McBride. Whitt pulled his starters and Mac did not but instead kept playing and trying to score. Ute players, coaches, and fans are not very happy about how that went down. Pretty funny though from a BYU fan's perspective!

what i saw in the win over Weber St. was not the true potential of this ute team. they did play consistent (until the 2s came in, which needs work). I think we will finally see the utes put together a perfect game come thursday against the beavers. plus its payback for last years game, remember what happened to ucla when they came up to play the utes (and cougars for that matter). utah will have this one over by halftime. johnson will go for 300+ and utah will have over 500 offensive yards. the osu d will overpursue on one aspect and the utes will take advantage of what the d gives them. I got my season tickes in W15 and will be cheerin VERY LOUD as i watch the utes dominate at home!

That was a great game on Saturday! I love it when we win and HATE it when we lose, except sometimes when we lose to BYU because they are a great team and they really help our SOS.
But how come we didn't get a shut out? I was thinking for sure we would. BYU has TWO shut outs this year even when playing their backups and we still don't have any. I guess Weber is just a much better team than UCLA. Not trying to be an AP Poll voter or anything, just my 2 cents.

(Disclaimer: I'm a BYU fan but love to see the MWC take it to the PAC10)
Don't underestimate the Beavers. The are big (except for their running back) and fast. Their defense will be the quickest you've faced all year. They are very aggressive. The energy here in Oregon with Beaver fans is palpable. They just played the most emotional game in years. The good news is that it is difficult to carry that over for two weeks. OSU is always up and down.
It will be a close game but here is the secret: Stop the running game!! FORCE OREGON STATE TO THROW THE FOOTBALL. Their QB had a career game against USC but he won't repeat that anytime soon. He is mediocre at best and wouldn't start for most MWC teams. It looks like their star receiver is out for the game too. Your secondary is good enough for one-on-one. Stop their running game and you win by 2 touchdowns. Let them run and it will be close.

RE: Oh Brother | 10:21 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
The Utah fans that are not happy with the weber state score do not know too much about football. Coach whitt did the right thing pulling everybody in the Third, trust me 2 touchdowns in garbage time does not mean a thing. Why leave your starters out in a game you know you have won and risk them getting injured when you have a huge game on thursday. To reflect, 37 to 21 over weber is not that far from 41 to 17 over No. Iowa, just saying. Does anyone else have the feeling Matt Asiata is going to have a huge game, along with johnson. And lastly to All my fellow Utah die hards, is anyone out there stoked to see what Aiona Key will do next year, we got a taste of him in the weber game and he looks like a very big tuff physical reciever, pretty freaking fast also. Get used to hearing the Term "Loukes to Key for another utah touchdown." the present looks bright and the future lookes brighter
Reality Check | 10:26 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Utah's win over Mich was the first game of the year. You can't base anything off of that. Be glad you got the W and forget about it.
Utah could lose to OSU if they continue to make stupid mistakes and the O stalls like it has in all 5 previous games (including WSU).
The is no way that Wyoming is going to beat Utah. The yewts can spot Wyoming 3 big mistakes and still win by a large margin. WSU could beat Wyoming on a good day.

Afte close call | 10:27 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
After their close call with a near high school program, the yewtes are probably wondering what they have gotten themselves into. They've raised their fan base (all seven or eight of them) with their lucky start and now know that the real meat of their schedule is upon them. What to do, what to do? Probably time to fold yewtes.
he after close call | 10:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
they were up 37-7 to with 5 minutes left and put in their third string, how is that close. Weber is better than northern iowa by the way and you were only up ten in third quarter

I root for all MWC teams to win until they play BYU. Next I root for Utah to win all games until they play BYU. Having said that, I think Utah can defeat the OSU Beavers, since the PAC 10 is a poor road conference; ergo the Beaver win over Southern California. By the same token, MWC teams are poor road teams as well, exemplified by the BYU scare at Washington. That celebration call by the officals in that game was definitely a crock by all measurement, and everyone knows it. The celebration violations are a joke and need to be revised, and they will be, trust me. The Beavers will give the Utes a lot of trouble, and they must play their best game. Penn State's blowout of the Beavers just punctuates my contention about teams on the road. However, the Alabama road win against the Georgia Bulldogs was huge; the Crimson Tide must be given major credit for this in the polls. I love the Utes, but their win over the Michigan was not huge, since Michigan is a relative joke in their conference, not withstanding their win over a Wisconsin Badger team last weekend. ROAD WINS RULE.

Apparently it meant something to the voters. Utah only moved up 2 spots while BYU didn't even play and moved up more than Utah did.

If you can ignore those who fail reality testing (Ted), crunch Oregon State. The PAC-10 needs another thrashing, say 59+ - 0. It would be very cool for Whit to toy with them, as in fake punts and onside kicks.

I'm a huge Utah fan and I have to admit I think we will lose this game. Yahoo, we didn't allow a high school team to sack BJ. Great. Give us a medal. As was mentioned earlier, we're playing with fire and we're gonna get burned by a team riding a very big high after upending the no. 1 team in the country. I hope we don't, but we're going to lose.
RE: RE; RE: oh brother | 12:33 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Hey at least wisconsin and asu are good enough to be called overrated and just so you know Utah played neither of those teams and they have yet to play an overrated team, if anything michigan is underrated along with oregon state and unlv and air force. See this is what i do not get about BYU fans, they will always fail to give credit where credit is due. Most UTE fans will give BYU some credit for what they have done thus far, two giant shut outs is impressive, but can they overcome adversity, they failed to do so in washington, they were bailed out by a terrible judgment call, everyone in the nation knows it. i am sure you are the college football fan who believes everyone in the counrty is overrated. Here i will tell you what, tonight for family night sit down and watch ESPN, dont just listen to your dad who tells you it is gods plan to have BYU number 1. then after go ponder it at coldstone

After all the upsets you could expect that, an undefeated BYU team who was ranked 11 should move ahead of at least USC, and was right to move past Georgia as well. IT might be a good thing BYU didn't play last week, just in case they didn't completely roll over USU. It all makes sense if you look at it, all that you can take from BYU moving up 3 or 4 spots is that they are filling the voids left by the teams that lost. georgia and USC are still top 15 teams, which explains why Utah didn't move farther. JMO though. Like I said though, great week to have a bye.

I'm a Cougar fan but I'm hoping Utah wins. I give the edge to the Utes because it's a home game. Utah and BYU just need to keep taking care of business until the final game.
But I could realistically see Utah losing to OSU and BYU losing to TCU. That would give the BCS people exactly what they want.

to see that Weber could beat some teams in the MWC or the WAC. For the so called huge Utah fan you must
not be aware of Utahs propencity to win high profile
games. Have some faith.

"Utah Fan" is wrong! | 1:13 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
I gotta disagree with "Utah Fan". It'll be a tough game, but no tougher than playing Michigan on the road or Air Force on the road. Utah has proved they can play and beat good teams, and they enter this game with that confidence.
If Utah can put a whole game together, they could win big. If they keep playing only half a game or 3/4 a game, they'll win in a close one. If they really fall apart - as they have in some games in prior years - they could lose. But their chances are good.

monday's take on the game | 1:21 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
The line currently sits at 11.5 points in favor of utah. Utah will be playing with a chip on its shoulder from the defeat to the beavers last year in corvalis and with an ugly final score last week. The strength of utah this year is stopping the run and OSU doesnt pass well on a consistent basis. It should be a hard night for the beavers, utah will pull away in the second half for a 20-pt win.

Hey Utes, go take care of Oregon State...and don't show ANY mercy! I know you guys have a quality team and you can take care of business. You need to win one for the MWC and all the other "mid majors". I am TIRED of the BCS conferences disrespecting us.
Re; Utah Fan | 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
You cannot be a "huge Utah fan" and talk that doom and gloom smack. The Utes obviously do not need you as a fan. Go get tickets to LES and don't bother ever showing up to a Ute game. You should be ashamed.
And by the way, all you posters that are not giving Weber any credit. They are far from a high school program. In a couple years you will see their QB in the NFL draft, mark my words. The guy is only a soph and he can play! They've got a good o-line and will only get better. Give Mac a couple more years of his recruiting and they will be contending for DII championships. Nobody in the MWC will want to schedule them.

I guess I don't understand how McBride leaving his starters in shafted Utah. It shows Kyle where his team needs help.
The game was out of reach, and if it gave McBride something to work on, all the more power to them.

I knew before I even got to read the news today that there would be byU fans trying to minimalize Utah's Stength of Schedule with stuff like "ASU and Wisconsin is overrated". Really, if you want to make yourselves feel better about your strenght of schedule, try to schedule somebody that isn't the last place PAC10 teams for a change. Utah's strenght of schedule definitely has IMPROVED since last week with the Michigan win over Wisconsin. Now, the quality wins can potentially increase with a win over OSU this week. I can't wait until next week's byU arguments. I can see the post now..."OSU's win over USC is not quality because USC is overrated, which makes Utah's win over OSU weak too. I mean, Washington...now that's a good PAC10 school".
Go Utes!!! Keep scheduling quality teams and winning....people will recognize your SOS and rank you were you should be.

Congrats to our Little Brothers on their No. 15 ranking!
How does it feel, Little Bros, to know that after all your marquee wins over impressive programs thus far in the season, that you have finally reached the lofty perch that the Cougs enjoyed — BEFORE THEY EVEN PLAYED A SINGLE GAME?
And why didn't the Utes (or as I like to call them, the FGS or Fighting Sakodas) get any preseason love? Because of the UNLV and Air Force losses last year — and 4th and 18. You have to build a program in successive years -- and like it or not, you set the stage the year before a big run.
Your big brothers, though, are rooting for you this week against Oregon State. If you stay undefeated, you too might be in the Top 10 by mid-November, and it will look even better on our resume when we maintain familial order with continued Big Brother dominance.
Congrats again on making it to No. 15!! (Yawn ... that was so five weeks ago.)

I want the Utes to win, but I think their time has run out.
Oregon State: 32
Utah: 17
Momentum: Oregon State
Athletics: Oregon State
Sorry Utes. Your being set up in the press/polls.
