Chris Hicks has done a nice job in discribing the new Charlie Chaplin Mutual Comedy set that has been in the works for betther than a year. Chaplin came into film in 1914 and work for Keystone before breaking away to make films for the Essany Film Company (1915). Then came these 12 gems, done for the Mutual Company over a period of 18 monts (1916-17). In these 12 25 minute comedies we see the birth of Chaplin's art take form. Someone has compared watching these films like having a camera capturing Thomas Edison in his lab at the moments perspiration turned into inspiration. We played the 12 Chaplin Mutuals over a period of one year at The Organ Loft, recording live performances. This 3 disc DVD set is a wonderful introduction to the genius of Chaplin--and we hope that it will lead the viewer to seek out Chaplin's feature films such as "The Kid", "The Gold Rush", "The Circus", "City Lights", "Modern Times", "The Great Dicator" and "Limelight". Thanks Chris for your fine piece.

Chaplin was a genius, and well ahead of his time. Too bad he was one of the many artists who fell victim to Hoover's regime, and was exiled from the country.
