I have lived in seven states in each region of the US and I have lived in Central America. I can assure you that the worst drivers live in Utah. I am a frequent pedestrian and it is my observation that it is rare for it to occur to drivers in Utah to yield to pedestrians. Watch drivers the next time you walk out of a store in Utah. Do they yield to you when you are in the crosswalk? When you walk down the sidewalk, do drivers pull out in front of you and look down the street for cars? Pedestrians matter, and it is time Utah enforced the concept.

I am a school crossing guard, let me tell you people don't care. You could stand at the cross walk for several minutes no one will stop, or very few. Even with me in the middle of the road with a stop sign wearing and orange vest, people still don't stop. 90% of the cars that drive through my school zone are speeding and most of those or either teenagers, or on cell phones, or both. It is scary. I am glad I don't have to walk many places. People need to pay attening when they drive. Talk about deadly weapons.

Hmmm, how many people in that area of Provo are actually from Utah?

Jason,
Are you saying all the bad drivers are from other states and that Utah drivers are courteous and careful? Give us all a break!
Yes, there are third wold countries where people drive really badly. Utah is supposed to have educated drivers who know the rules. The first and second posters are correct. Utah has some of the worst drivers in the country. They treat stop signs like yield signs(at best). They tailgate you no matter how fast you are going. Great examples!

I'm a Utahn but I lived in Texas for 10 years where drivers are courteous and kind. Moving back to Utah showed me how nightmarish it is here on the roads. I don't understand why people are so road hoggish and unkind here. My daughters recently visited Texas and came back pointing out how nice drivers there are - letting you into lines and waving you in. When is Utah going to apply the "be kind to everyone" lessons in Sunday School to driving? When?

Don't always blame the drivers. I see people in the area around byu every day who don't look to see if the light is on and cross anyway. Most are on the phone. They cross when the left arrow is on. They cross when the light in their direction is red. They run across on a red light so they don't have to cut off their run at the intersection. They cross catty corner and out of the crosswalk to make it shorter.
Drivers and pedestrians both need to be more careful.
