Mountain Crest is a legit contender
2A South | 7:42 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
So... why is south sevier ranked fifth over richfield? Richfield clearly beat them two weeks ago

where is Skyline! Look at skyline's winning history, this is unbelievable that syracuse is ahead of skyline. Skyline always starts off slow during the season, but trust me they will dominate anyone in their path once playoffs hit. with the way skyline has always played they deserve a spot in the top 5 no matter what. With the wish bone offense, everyone knows going into the game that there is no stopping it. These writers will look foolish come the end of the season.. Go Eagles!
Go Rams | 9:27 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Because South Siever is clearly the better team even the people at Deseret Know that DUH!!!!
Criteria? | 10:10 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I understand rankings are just opinion and mean nothing come playoff time, but I am curious about the criteria used. With all due respect to Sky View (which is a great program), how does it rank ahead of Mountain Crest and Pine View, both of which played tougher schedules and have the same record?
I think the fallacy will be exposed when SV has to play MC, just like it was last year when SV was favored over PV in the playoffs.

Alta's D & O | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Wow, they are looking good. D is killing everyone, O is pouring on the points. They are getting better each week.
2A guy | 10:23 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I agree Richfield is clearly the second best team in the South behind San Juan. The top 4 is correct but the order is up in the air. I know Juab beat Manti and Manti beat N. Summit......but what happens if N. Summit beats Juab...do you rank San Juan #1 hard to say San Juan has been tested but not agianst any of the best of 2A. I still see a San Juan Juab final, but 2A is anyones game.

ANOTHER HUUUUUUGE GAME!! Region 4. Pleasant Grove @ Spanish Fork. Could determine Region Champ.
Anonymous | 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Congrats to Syracuse for breaking into the top 5! that game against northridge was a nailbiter until the end.
Light Blue | 10:52 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
PG squeeked by Lone Peak, Bingham rolled LP I would take Bingham at #3 and a close #2 Layton even with a shut out is still not getting good plays called from the OC Layton had to convert 4th downs on three three diferrent series to get that 34-0 win over a tiny D-fence I love my Layton D but the O is not impressing me knowing what waits for them on turf. By the way Syracuse HOAJ you'r out from under the radar now. I ate my words impressive win.
Region 1 is no cake walk all my credit givin to the coaches and players that are making this league so fun to watch, Great Games this weekend Layton-Syracue, Davis-NoRidge

Best Game is Region 6 | 11:33 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
East at Cottonwood. 1st place gets a cakewalk into Rice eccles. 2nd place gets to play AT Timpview week 2.
Re: Criteria | 11:51 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I agree completely with your argument that Mountain Crest and Pine View should now be ranked higher than Sky View. Sky View has truly played a weak schedule compared to Mountain Crest and Pine View. Their only claim to fame is beating Logan, who has also played a cupcake schedule. Sky View lost this week to a team from Idaho that lost to Logan. Pine View's record over the last 21 games is 19-2 with their only losses coming to Cottonwood this year and Timpview last year. Oh yeah, and they pasted SV 55-24 in the semis last year. Mountain Crest has several quality wins this year including victories over Highland and Bountiful. Their only loss is to Northridge. Do the people that do these rankings know the facts?
Region 9 | 11:58 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Snow Canyon is not ranked?
Rankings.... | 12:07 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Syracuse needs to enjoy it why they can because come playoff time....one and done!
hsfootballfan | 12:13 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Bountiful is NOT a quality win. They not that good of team. All the speculation will end in a couple weeks when MC and SV play until then is all just talk.

My rankings after week 7
5A
1. Alta: Hawks continue to dominate.
2. Layton: Big game against surging Syracuse awaits the Lancers.
3. Bingham: 0-2 start is all but a distant memory now.
4. Pleasant Grove: Vikings showed they know how to win close games with tough test against Lone Peak.
5. Jordan: Beetdiggers are starting to turn up the heat at the right time.
6. Syracuse: Titans looking like anything but a second year team.
7. Riverton: Do the Silverwolves have what it takes to steal region 3 from Bingham?
8. Northridge: two weaks, two overtime losses, to two good teams. The knights need to put it back together and fast.
9. Skyline: Eagles should make the playoffs where they usually do better than expected.
10. Lone Peak: This is the first time I have ever moved a team into the top 10 after a loss, but the Knights were impressive against a TOUGH PG team.

My Rankings After Week 7-
4A-
1. Timpview: T-Birds now hold the record for most consecutive wins. Congrats to Timpview.
2. Cottonwood: Showdown with East will provide us with the Region 6 Champion.
3. Pine View: Another win for the Panthers in their quirky 4A/3A region.
4. Sky View: With the Bobcats not having their starting QB, Sky View looks kind of vulnerable.
5. Mountain Crest: One game to go before the Mustangs travel North for a Cache Valley Classic.
6. East: Leopards can prove how good they are with a huge upset over Cottonwood on Friday.
7. Dixie: Flyers picking up momentum at the right time.
8. Bountiful: Bounced back nicely with a big win over surging Woods Cross.
9. Highalnd: Rams in unfamiliar territory as the 3rd best team in Region 6.
10. Springville: Devils are showing they were no fluke.

re; 2A guy | 1:12 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I agree 2A is anyones game but I dont think anyone should underestimate richfield. They held San Juan to one offensive touchdown and they were leading Juab at halftime. They did get absolutely killed by manti but I think they are getting their kinks worked out finally. I think Richfield, San Juan, Juab, and Manti are the teams to make the semi-finals this year. I am not saying Richfield will win but they will definantly give their opponents a run for their money.
re: Region 9 | 1:35 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
That's right. And they won't be. 2-5 now and 2-7 when it's done. They have "one horse" to clash with a "stable full" at both Pine View and Dixie.
re: What! | 1:36 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
honestly it doesn't matter about your "winning history"...you shouldn't be in the top 5 in the 5A because you only have one good win all season and that would be bingham and to tell you the truth if you played them again you would get utterly destroyed....you need to beat jordan before you can talk about the playoffs
True Blue Layton | 1:37 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Skyline's winning tradition has nothing to do with this year's rankings, as if you want to talk winning tradition, what's up with getting blanked last year 49-0 in the 2nd round by Layton. If you want to bring up history, then you have to face the music of how you did in the 'past history'.
Layton's OC was taking it easy, implementing Jackson in a little (maybe too early as hopefully he didn't aggravate his healing foot too much), also trying Cory Bartlett out as RB. Williams, when he did play, was dominant.
I'm not worried about Layton's Offense, once they're healed. Had they been at full strength, It very well couldv'e been 60-0 against Clearfield. Same goes with their "squeakers" against NRidge & Davis. With their #1, #2 RBs, things would've been different.

How is Logan's schedule cupcake? Sky View, Judge Memorial, and Highland, ID. Both Highland and Judge were expected to be good this year. Not Logan's fault they aren't.
ALTAFAN | 1:53 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Skyline, The dynasty is over. Deal with it. If you want to look at history look at the history of the current season. Or last years history for that matter. Everyone has a fluke game once in a while but there's been too many for Skylines past to give them a spot in the top 5. Maybe if we were ranked by the BCS things would be different but were not. You've got the spot you earned.
to Anonymous | 1:56 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
You're right it's not Logans fault that Judge and Highland, ID aren't good this year. It's not everyone elses fault either. Because they're not doing good you've had a cupcake schedule. Sorry but that's just how it is. No worries though we all know JD is going to take it this year as long as they can beat Delta.
Luke Staley | 2:00 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Welcome to the coaching staff of Alta High School. What a great addition to a staff that has already proved tself as being the tops in the state. There is probably none better in the state to teach the running backs at Alta, and to continue to improve that part of their offense. Go Hawks, Take State!
Anonymous | 2:08 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Northridge is the best 4-3 team in the state
Richfield? | 2:16 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Richfield I'm sorry but there is no way you going to make any sort of run in the playoffs good luck next year.
haha | 2:18 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
it doesn't matter what happened last year.
they base the rankings on THIS YEAR.
Pine View is not as good as Mt. Crest.
Mt. Crest is not as good as Sky View. The rankings are right!
When Sky View and Mt. Crest play in two weeks you will see who is better. Even without their starting quaterback. They have Falsev taking snaps and running all over people just like he does.
Sky View should be #3 hands down!

I agree, Richfield is a good team and could be right there with the top dogs at seasons end. Juab is the clear #1 right now but there is alot of football still to play. Things will get fun soon.
True Blue Layton | 4:00 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
NRidge could easily be 3-4 had they lost their game vs. Jordan. They better learn how to win the close ones.
oh please | 4:08 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
sky view beat Bonneville and barely lost to a good Highland team all while playing without their starting quarterback. They also are missing a starting lineman because he's sick and they're still drilling people. Kyler will be back this week and sky view will continue dominating region 5.
True Blue Layton | 4:16 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
My Top 10 5A:
1. Alta: unstoppable

6. Riverton: continues to surprise
7. Jordan: O's engine warming up
8. Skyline: Upset minded
9. Northridge: Losing steam
10. Lone Peak: Could do damage

Dixie Fan | 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I not sure about picking up momentum Dixie's only losses are to Locosta Cyn Ca. and Bishop Gorman def Nev. 4a State champs. And truth be known Bishop Gorman got lucky. Dixie has a big game with PV this week and it should be a good game. And about are quricky 3a/4a region I'd like to thank the state and others for screwing it up. And I do mean our school board who has failed to do the right thing. If they had done we would all be 3a and the games in our region would all mean some thing. In another year we won't even have enough kids to be 4a. And Dixie dosen't even have any good growth areas so our #s won't be going up.
Alta-can't | 5:16 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Don't even start talking about dynasties because the only ones that have won back to back titles are Skyline and Northridge. Until Alta can win three in a row it will be at that point that I can say that Alta is a Dynasty. I'm big highschool football fan and know my history of football but don't come on here ALTA fans and run your mouths because Skylines got more State Titles than you have wins this season. My Bingham Miners have one it once and I can truly say that it has improved Binghams Football Program like it has for anyone else who has won the State Title. I remember a few years ago when Skyline lost about five or six games in the regular season and still won the State title. See if your team can do any of that.
Football Fan | 5:26 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
to: true blue layton fan.In all your comments you continue to put Bingham fourth. Try as you might to seperate from them, you will face them somewhere in the playoffs. Face it, they will meet and Bingham will win. They may have stumbled early on but the run defense has always come through.PG has the unpleasant task of playing Alta and you have Bingham. The old saying,"Act like you've been there before " Fits for Alta and Bingham because they have and they won it. They will be there again and it will be a classic. Tied for third with PG is as good as it will get for you. like I said before...Face it.
Re: ha ha | 5:37 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Can't imagine what you're laughing about unless it's your own logic. I admire the Sky View program, but the facts speak for themselves: SV has played a weak schedule compared with MC and PV. Bonneville is 2-5 and SV lost to Highland, Idaho, which lost to 3A Logan. Box Elder, Roy and Fremont are all losers this year and couldn't beat their grandmothers.
Sorry, but SV's #3 ranking is indefensible. Only a diehard would argue differently (like arguing that Palin won the debate). I won't be the least bit surprised if Bountiful beats SV this week and I have little doubt that MC will do the same the week after.

i completely agree with that top ten! every team is where they are supposed to be
re all the eagle doubters | 7:06 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
winning tradition has everything to do with the top 5! and last year against layton was pure luck and poor coaching. Sklyine will wallop layton this year if they meet up again. Skyline is the most storied program this state has ever seen and is not ready to fall off its pedistule. all of you doubters will wish you had not said these negative about skyline. They will punish alta, layton, and bingham... again. I am sure all the coaches have seen this and have used it as motivation for our boys and every team in the state will reveive the punishment that is getting ready to be dwealt! Go Eagles!
Skyview | 7:17 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I am not a Skyview Fan, Bountiful will not Beat SV this week. They are not a very good team, MC will have better Luck beating SV than Bountiful. I am looking forward to seeing SV in the Playoffs.
SV 28 Bountiful 14
SV 28 Bountiful 14
Go Bingham | 7:45 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
After the Bingham-Layton semi finals playoff game there will be a lot of truly blue Layton fans! I can't wait!
skyview | 7:47 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
there not that good
Region 9 | 8:27 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Here we go again! Now its Dixie complaining about being 4A. Tiresome! Just go on the Wash. Co. School District web site and look at the middle school numbers coming up for next year. You are not getting smaller you're getting bigger. Just face it, you will never be 3A again unless of course they build another high school in St. George.
skyline | 8:42 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
stop getting mad at layton and alta for being a better team than you
tuffgong | 8:44 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Skyview just got beat by a VERY good team in Highland from Pocatello, Idaho. I watched them play here in Logan and thought they should have won, but glad they didn't, had they not fumbled 4 times. Logan turned those into points thankfully. They got beat by the same team that Alta did (Grant Union) by about the same score. Highland has a QB that is a man amongst boys. From what I saw, they could play with or beat any team in Utah... Skyview should be able to play deep into the 4A playoffs. Logan will win 3A, I'm hoping... Whoever says that Highland is soft doesn't know a thing about HS football around here.
Lonestar | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Richfield will be their in the playoffs. the coaching staff made some critical changes on offence and are playing very well indeed. Coach Morrison should not be over looked he loves the game and will make a great team out of Richfield. I do think Richfield should be ranked higher than South Sevier and will be after they beat Millard this week.
wow | 10:18 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
if logan beat that team from idaho that team is not that good just face it skyview is good just not top three in state top ten yah top 5 no
to Football Fan, from True Blue | 10:41 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Bingham will bump up if #1-3 hiccup. Or maybe, as USC leapfrogged BYU this week in the rankings. Both teams won, but because the Y didn't beat Utah St by more, they were leapfrogged.
I do hope Layton gets a game with both Bingham & Alta. would be sweet.
I do hope Layton gets a game with both Bingham & Alta. would be sweet.

'They will punish alta'-maybe an alta player wil twist an ankle while running skyline over if they meet in the playoffs. That's the only kind of punishment skyline will be able to put on alta!
45-21!
45-21!
ALTAFAN | 11:04 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
First and foremost I never said Alta was a dynasty. All I was getting at is that Skyline's reign is over and that the fact that they have an admirable past is just that admirable. However it's irrelevant now. Past good teams don't automatically get you a spot in the top 5 the current team does.

Syracuse a good pick at # 5.
With my home team, Layton having Syracuse visit this Friday. Will be a great game. 2 of best D in the state. Layton has played one of the toughest schedules in the state also. Cottonwood, Jordan, Davis, Northridge and now Syracuse. Still has to visit Viewmont. Hoping the Lancers will be undefeated in region for 2nd straight year.
GO BIG BLUE!!!!!
