I disagree | 9:21 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
I can tell you right now this is one of the major reasons that USU football has not been successful for the last decade. If they want to be somewhat decent, Brent, go after the instate people.

I can also tell that Utah State coach or staff has no clue how to recruit. They need local football players. You mean to tell that in California the 4 or 5 pick is any better the the players in Utah. NO Wonder Utah State cannot win

I have been in the middle of High School Sports for over two decades now, and I have witnessed the stupidity of local universities ignoring local talent to their dismay when they come back from another out of state school to hurt local teams that could have had them. Urban Myers was the worst. He came in on the backs of a Utah team dominated by local kids then would not take any more when he was here. Wittingham has had to correct that but is still enamored by California and Texas players. I have had to shove by way of walk ons local players into Utah only to see them win starting positions now for over ten years. TAKE A HINT AND LEARN FROM IT! Year in and year out the lesson keeps repeating itself but still seems not to have been learned. One coach seems to have the message, Coach McBride of Weber - and it is having an impact.
Every year Utah high schools play top schools from other states. The win record is huge in our favor. There is a very good reason why.
Boy I hope somebody who counts is reading this!!!!

When mentioning local talent filling college rosters, why is there never any mention of baseball? The local baseball players are and have been doing great things at the college level for several years, however, it seems the only sports that are mentioned are football, basketball and soccer. While I am also a big fan of these sports, it would be nice to hear about the successful baseball players as well.

Is the exception. I agree with I disagree. We have been saying it all along. Utah State must start recruiting in state talent.
I also agree with the article. Many more high school athletes are spending money on programs to help make their kids catch the caoches eye. For example, many kids from our high school go to BASICS at Weber State to train off season. They also have a program that educate kids on the NCAA clearing house, SPARQ testing and training. The concept is catching on all over the state.

I don't remember a time when local colleges didn't have in-state kids in any sport.
DII and DIII | 9:58 p.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Any credit to former utah prep stars playing in DII or DIII schools? I'm sure there are plenty

so far, the U of U's in state recruiting hasn't gone so well...Daniel Deane and Jace Tevita? Both of these guys are busts. I don't blame utah schools for going elsewhere if these are the types of players they have available to them on the local level. it is an embarrassment.
Utah State? | 10:37 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Go to scout.com and look at Utah State. They have a ton of Utah kids that have selected Utah State as a favored school. Coach Guy hasn't offered one Utah kid anything. Utah has very good football talent. I think its time for him to go for many reasons. Can't coach or recruit.
