Could the officer(s) gotten a tranqilizer dart or called wildlife services to tranqilize the moose and relocate it.

You have got to be kidding. What a waste. Don;t tell me they couldn't have used a tranquilizer. What a stupid thing to do. Why didn't they just tell people to "get away". For crying out loud!!!! I am sure that killing the cow did wonders for the Moose population there, which I hear is NOT!!!!! STUPID MISTAKE.

MI DNR was notified. First option was to try and move the moose to a less populated area. Second option was to tranquilize the moose and relocate them. Third option was lethal force. Two attempts were made to move the moose. First attempt was successful and the cow moose with 2 calves, retreated back into the woods. However, several hours later, the cow moose and a single calf were spotted in town again, close to a major highway running through our region. A second attempt was made to move the moose, at which time the mother and remaining calf became separated. Mom moose ran through town, crowds of people and cars chasing it, which became a safety issue. The stressed state of the moose would have killed it if tranquilized, while exposing the public to a dangerous class 2 narcotic(10,000X more potent than morphine), a pinhead size drop will kill a human, not to mention other wildlife and domestic animals who came across the dart or the dead moose. It would have taken 20 plus minutes to take affect, by which time who knows where the 900# moose would have been. Crowd control, tickets and LEAVE THE WILDLIFE ALONE PEOPLE!

they could have tried other options to get the moose to safty like trankulization and lifted the moose to safty in stead of going ahead and shooting it and then giving it to eat that is kind of messed up maybe that is why they shot the moose in the first place so they could have moose meat who know?
but there were alot better options.
