Since when do candidates in the midst of a serious campaign and a national crisis need to kiss up to the late-night comedy guys?

Letterman and Leno both will be making a fortune off making fun of whoever wins. The comedy show hosts need to realise these guys are running a campaign and will someday be running the country and may have higher priorities than going to NYC or CA to make an appearance on their silly program.

The campaign is serious the candidates are anything but.
