re who cares? | 3:10 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
why is that? Is it cause kewg fans like to watch other teams play in a game they feel they deserve to be in even though they lost to tcu and air force?
Tired........... | 3:54 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
of UNLV getting the conference tourney on their homecourt. The conference tourney should be on the homecourt of the winner of the conference. UNLV wouldn't even get a bid to the NCAA tourney if they didn't get thie inherent advantage every year.
sour | 4:18 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
What is it about women's basketball that BYU does not understand. They are terrible year in and year out! Terrible recruiting by coaches.
Men's football is obviously competitive nationally, and men's basketball is competitive at least in the MTN, and are obtaining great recruits. Oh does the women's program ever need some changes to break out of mediocracy!
amused | 4:35 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
To "sour", perhaps you should check your spelling, to avoid seeming to personify the mediocrity (not mediocracy) that you so harshly criticize.
re tired | 4:44 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
until the MWC gets tired of MONEY it won't change.
unlv? | 4:47 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
unlv wouldn't even get a bid to the tourney??????? hasnt unlv won 3 tourney games the last 2 years when was the last time byu won a tourney game?

Some people just insist on living in the past.
re: anonymous | 6:11 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If you don't know who Wink is, you must not be a BYU fan. They all remember that Wink Adams almost single-handidly destroyed their season. After he hit three pointer after three pointer in the second half of the chanmpionship game, the Cougars never got their game back, and that carried over to the Texas A & M game.

RE:Runnin Rebs#1 BYU who cares

Rebel, you are right about BYU. They will always choke. UNLV is a great team but the Utes might surprise you all this year!
UNLV RUNNIN REB!! | 6:14 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
IM FROM VEGAS AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY BYU FANS TALK SMACK!!! YOU HAVENT EVEN BEEN TO THE SWEET 16 SINCE THE 80'S!!! YOUR PLAYERS WERE NOT EVEN BORN YET!!
AND YES WE LIVE IN THE PAST AS THE GREATEST TEAM EVER TO PLAY COLLEGE BASKET BALL... NOW HOW DO YOU LIKE DEM APPLES!
re: UNLV | 6:18 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
UNLV has gotten a decent seed because they win the tourney. They may not have done so well had they gotten a non-secure bid. Playing vs. Kent State? Come on.
Anonymous | 7:06 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
UNLV RUNNIN REB SHOULD STOP POSTING IN ALL CAPS!!!!! IT LOOKS OBNOXIOUS!!!!
Anonymous | 7:07 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Everyone in the league plays their guts out for the entire season for the opportunity to play in the UNLV Invitational. Until the conference moves the tourney to a neutral site, it remains a second-tier league with a ridiculous spin machine kicking into high gear to assure all of us that it's not THAT big of an advantage for UNLV. Yeah, right.
Tourney Location | 7:31 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Tourney location is partially decided by the prospect of revenue and fan accomodation. Therefore, it will never be in Laramie, Fort Collins or NM. But I agree it should not always be in Vegas. Perhaps the best thing is for it to rotate between the larger locations like Vegas, SLC, San Diego and Dallas. It would be a mistake to give the sight to the regular season conference champion - the idea is to get multiple teams into the dance not increase the chance that there will only be one.
Eugene | 7:56 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I'm a Cougar fan (disclosure up front), but I'd rather play the tourney championship randomly each year on the Ute's home court, or the Coug's home floor, or San Diego State's, or . . . just never on the same conference team's home court every year.

If a fan of any MWC team has any intellectual honesty, having it every year on one team's own floor is going to be an advantage year in, year out. This isn't Cougar crying, it's simply fact.

Just like the BCS needs a true football play-off tournament to settle who's the Champion on the field, so does the MWC need a neutral tournamnet site or play on the season champion's own floor. Fair is fair no matter what team you root for!!
Re: Re:UNLV | 8:05 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Always excuses. So what you are saying, Two years ago, UNLV Should have been at most a 16th seed playing a one seed because they BEAT the 2 seed Ohio State to reach the Sweet 16. By beating the 2 seed would indicate they were not seeded high enough.
Byu is always saying they can compete with the power conferences. Well, you got a middle of the pack Texa AM team and lost. UNLV, on the other hand, 1st year got a middle of the pack Georgia Tech team and beat them, then showed them the quality program they have by beating the 2 seed. So it was deserving for UNLV to play Kent St, they have proved they can beat anyone. Until BYU proves they can win, they will not get any sympathy. But in all probability, Kent St was the one slighted, they were better then UNLV, Texas AM and BYU. They just happen to have a bad half against UNLV.
Home Court | 8:17 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If you don't like it in Vegas, then either don't show up or beat them on their floor. Utah did it in the WAC. You sound like a bunch a cry babies when you lose and then complain.
It sounds to me you don't have confidence your team can beat UNLV at UNLV. You are prob right. Maybe you should move to Vegas, then your home team can have home court advantage. I think you would get farther, because all the crying is not getting you very far.
Coaches | 8:26 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Dave Rose could beat up Lon Kruger. And his dad could beat up Lon Kruger's dad, so there!
BYU owns Las Vegas! | 8:48 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
BYU will win the tournament in Vegas and the Las Vegas bowl this year. BYU owns Las Vegas, baby!
Utteramma | 8:50 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
That's a lot of respect for the Utes fourth place in conference, even with Boylen as the coach... Sure they have top four talent, but with Boylen as the coach, a fourth place finish? That's a little high I think. Boylen just intimidates the players into choking. The Utes made a big mistake in hiring him.
Good vacation | 8:58 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Who cares what's fair, it's all about a good vacation. Where else would us Coug fans want to go to let our hair down a little?
Fully Invested | 8:59 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
What is with all the whining about the tournament location. Just play the game and win. If it's so hard to do then you didn't deserve it in the first place. All the complaining about the BCS and then we turn around and complain about the opportunity we have in basketball that we only wish we had in football. I don't get it.
BYU Fan | 9:00 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I'm a forever BYU fan. I love my cougs and want them to win, win, win baby. However, we need to stop dissing everyone until we can figure out how to win an NCAA tournament game.

Frankly, I'd pay Dave Rose $1 for the regular season and the balance of his salary for an NCAA tournament win. Next year I'd up the antee to the Sweet 16.

I don't care about seeding. Gonzaga started their chain of success by beating a higher seed. Let's go Cougs!!!
UNLV | 9:50 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Home court doesn't matter until you suggest to UNLV that the games are played elsewhere. Talk about whining. How about another venue in LV and not the Thomas and Mack?
Straws | 11:06 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Keep grasping at those straws, you're going to need them. How about just try winning one game in a hostile environment. BYU won't even play in the Smith Spectrum. And these are fans who think they can win a national championship? LOL
BYU fans would complain about any venue in Vegas, heck they would complain UNLV would have a home court advantage if the game was played in Reno.

Come back when you have won a tourney game.
UNLV Fanforever | 11:35 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Listen BYU fans! Stop whining about the location! If it weren't for UNLV the MWC wouldn't have any NCAA tournament wins! If your teams are so great, than why don't You guys have have any kind of confidence that you can beat UNLV on their home floor? Give us some respect will ya! It's not like we were 6th or 7th in the MWC, then came out of no where to win the tournament! We were 2nd place back to back! But to change subjects, I do hope you guys get a chance to play for a national title, that would be huge for the conference!
MWC Weak | 8:08 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
National Title!? I watched the Y struggle past New Mexico (that venerable powerhouse), then I watched Florida trounce LSU. Enjoy the MWC protection of playing nobody, BYU, because you ain't no Florida! In fact, you will probably lay an egg at TCU.
I'm a Cougar fan . . . | 8:41 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
. . . and I agree, we stink it up in the NCAA tourney, so we don't have a lot of room to whine about anything until we start winning some games there. However, having the automatic seed to the tourney based on who wins the tourney at UNLV's home court just isn't right. In basketball, more than any other collegiate sport, the home court is statistically very advantagious. Rotate, or even play it in Vegas at another venue, but it's not right. I'm very objective, and I'd be saying the same thing if the tourney were held at the Marriott Center every year. So yes, we need to start winning some games at the NCAA tourney, but the fact that we haven't doesn't change the fact that the conference tourney is not equitable as long as it's held at the opponent's home court EVERY year.
To UNLV RUNNIN REB!! | 10:46 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
... and are you off NCAA probation yet?
UNLV | 5:31 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
We will never be off probation. If we didn't cheat every year, we wouldn't win at all. I mean really, would you want to go to UNLV for the academics? We recruit players with no writing skills. Ever heard a UNLV player do an interview. Hillarious.
Blah Blah Blah | 10:42 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Thats all we hear out of BYU fans. If BYU would have won the tourney, they still would have lost in the first round. So it really doesn't matter if they win the MWC tourney or not. They still would have lost. They always do.
